About the fab you have to do is the coil mounts. Just get some flat steel for that. And make sure the oil pump shaft assembly/ cam shaft posistion sensor (where the distributor would be) is posistioned with the plug pointing at the firewall. I had mine off a little and it kept the jeep from starting.

^^^ agreed sounds like it needs a good flush/fill. A new/bigger tranny cooler also helps a LOT - heat is the transmission's biggest enemy

Does anyone know of a cheap and good place or website tht sells tires, besides tredwright? They are backordered. Im thinking either 31" or 30" all terrains or something similar. Thanks.
Hey i'm pretty new here, and i don't have alot of know-how towards jeeps and only vague knowledge on cars in general. I'm the proud owner of a 96 Jeep Cherokee and want to start getting into off-roading more, but first I've gotta deal with a bad engine. I'm pretty sure that one of my bearings down in the block is to blame for a very loud ticking noise considering ive ripped apart the engine from the block up, i.e. the head, lifters, rods and whatnot looking for a problem there. My only question is, what range of SHORT blocks from other jeep models and years will fit in my Cherokee?
Thanks for your time.

However I will say that the crank bearings are very easy to inspect/replace on this engine, just drop the oil pan and they are easily accessible - the bottom caps unbolt and the top caps rotate out.

Treadwright is cheap because they are retread tires. For new tires you're likely going to want to search local to eliminate shipping costs. Have a Discount Tire nearby? I always get my tires from TireRack - reasonable prices and shipping
