Default Proper wheel/rim size?

I don't know what I'm looking at when looking at all the different choices in measurements of after market wheels for my 99 sport. Can anyone tell me what measurements I should go with? It's my daily driver and I was thinking about putting either 18 or 20 inch wheels on it.

EDIT: update after test drive. Much better, much more power and the fuel pump is silent instead of the buzzing it usually has. Still has a hesitation around 2000 rpms and is a little jumpy, but if I shift there's no more hesitation, or if I just floor it from a stop it'll go all the way to redline without any hesitation, just cruising at or slow acceleration around 2000 rpms gives me hesitation.
Did you replace the fuel PUMP or the fuel FILTER? Sorry man, your posts are a little confusing.

Anyway, after whatever you replaced, did you check the fuel pressure again?

Fuel filter, if you can find me a Comanche fuel pump. You're a miracle worker. Sorry they're confusing. I try to put as much detail as I can in them but sometimes I run around in circles because I think so scatter brained. I did not check the fuel pressure again. I should have, but I test drove it seeing if I could tell a difference, which I could and it had a lot more power and ran better than it had before, but it still hesitated at 2000 rpms so when I got back I was frustrated, cold and my back was acting up so I called it a night and figured I'd do some googling and asking and see if I could figure anything out.

waste of time IMHO. Install it as designed.

lol... yeah I got the jist of what you were saying, but you said you picked up a fuel pump from the auto parts store, then mentioned the fuel filter then went back to the fuel pump again lol... okay, so the fuel filter is what was replaced, good deal.

That hesitation at 2k, might just be the residual of that nasty *** fuel workin' its way out. Check your fuel pressure again just to be sure, then clean the injectors and you should be golden.

Oops sorry must have been thinking fuel pump and typed it by accident. Definitely got a fuel filter and replaced the fuel filter. I'm hoping it will work it's way out, but thought it may be something else. Any suggestions on cleaning the injectors? Actually removing and cleaning or using that fuel additive stuff?

Both. The additive will clean out the lines as well as assist in cleaning the injectors. But I would do the additive first, then drive it for about a tank full, then pull the injectors and clean them. Might end up having to pull them a few times with that much varnish in the system.

The guy I bought my XJ from put 18s on it. Don't do it for a daily. You have to go with a smaller sidewall to fit the tires in the wheel wells, and that results in a much poorer ride.

Plus, have you looked at tire prices for 18s? Jeepus!

I plan to run to the parts store and grab a fuel pressure gauge and see where it's at. Speaking of, does anyone know off the top of their head what the pressure should be?
So I know you replaced the fuel filter after this, and that helped, but let me add a data point.

I have a scangauge* running in my jeep all the time and one of the things I display is engine coolant temp. Now, I have a 98 so I only have the one ECT sensor, not two like the earlier models.

One day I notice that my scangauge is telling me the temp is like 168F or something else ridiculous. My heat is working fine, though, so I don't really "get" what's going on. I'd also only had this jeep for 3-4 months at the time.

Then it starts hesitating and acting like it's gonna die when I accelerate quickly. A day or two later, I go to get gas and it won't start after I fill it up.

Turned out that the ECT sensor was bad, and because the ECT sensor was reporting that the engine was at 168F instead of the actual 205-210, the PCM was dumping the wrong amount of fuel in the cylinders. I just had to let the engine cool down and it would fire right up.

BTW, here's a chart that CCKen gave me:

*I would not pay the $160 they want for that today. Instead, I'd buy an Ultragauge

May I add another item that I found needs to be done once in awhile? When I tore mine all apart I found that the injector rail it'self was almost filled up to the injectors inside with very fine junk. It's probably not a bad idea to disassemble these and clean out the rail it's self good at least once if it has quite a few miles on it.

I was shocked at how much junk actually came out of mine.

Anyone who would put anything over a 16 on one of these, or any 4X4 for that matter, is ignorant and foolish. I would have done what you did too.

I don't think a scam gauge would help very much on an 87, but I might look into the coolant temp thing. I'm currently cleaning the throttle body, iac and tps XJ Ask the Question Thread-photo758.jpgXJ Ask the Question Thread-photo661.jpg

One of the common symptoms of a failing CTS is bogging down or stalling under heavy acceleration, especially from a stop. A quick test is to simply unplug the temp sensor and see if the problem goes away

It doesn't stall under heavy acceleration, the exact opposite actually. It runs best if I just got to the floor from a stop, but I mean it doesn't hurt to try it. Once I get done cleaning the throttle body and iac and get the tps adjusted.
