Hey guys, new to the forum. Just bought an 01 cherokee. Anniversary. The thing is mint interior and body wise, I am aware of the head issue and with 157k i've been on top of it. Now to my question. Where do you guys buy your parts? On my other truck(explorer) i've stuck to advance auto since its around 5 minutes away. But I plan on changing my water pump, oil pump, pan, fan clutch, ac compressor, and all the cooling system. Any suggestions for places with quality parts? I'm not sure if advance is gonna cut it anymore and I would like to just have one source and stick with it. Thanks!!

 

I get most of my stuff at Advance. Some stuff from RockAuto.com occasionally, and certain parts come from the dealership

 

That sounds like the route I will be taking. I have never used RockAuto but have heard many good things from friends who have. Would you recommend it?

 

Aside from sending me the wrong wheel once for my Camaro, I've had good experiences. Their customer service was great

I buy from advance also. If you buy online and pickup in store use code TRT30 for 30% off up to $50 of the order. It works every time. I've even stood in the store, ordered the part on my iPhone and walked to the counter to pick it up with my 30% off. If I have to order a lot of parts I break it up into orders of $250 so I get my $50 off of each order.

 

That's what I've been doing with my explorer. I do it online and by the time I drive there it's ready to be picked up.

 

I buy most of my stuff from Rockauto. Of 35 orders over 4 years, I've only gotten one bad part and that was a manufacturers defect. I called and had a new part in 3 days with a core return shipping label. They are even starting to carry Mopar parts.

 

It only has 120k on it, I'll look at the manifold. Would a thick oil treatment quiet them down?

 

Pop the valve cover off and it will say 0331 on the side with the manifolds. If it also says TUPY you're in luck.

Only the 0331 has bolt holes for the coil rail.

 

I love me some Rock Auto. Up here buying parts in retail stores isn't an option if you have less than a six-figure income.

Only customer service experience I've had is I was sent the wrong wiper blades once - the complaint form was very well thought out and straightforward, they just sent me new ones.

I would recommend exercising caution with anything requiring a core return because shipping can be such a pain.

Regardless, their catalog and application guide is second to none. I do most of my parts research there for interchange etc.

Nope. At 120k you should run oil. Possible exception is if someone ran sand through it.

Check manifold for cracks. Track down the source of the noise. A lot of people think they have piston slap or blown lifters when it's really a cracked flex plate. A chunk of garden hose will go a long way to finding the source - a mechanic's stethescope is even better.

 

I get what I can from Rock Auto. Even with shipping it's probably 60% of the parts stores for the better products. Only complaint i had was the hoses were packed with my radiator and bent some fins during shipping. Not enough to matter so I kept it. They've been spot on otherwise.

 

it say 0331 on it without removing the valve cover. It's on the outside just next to the intake manifold.

If u shine a flashlight inside the oil fill hole, there may or may not be a tupy markings. No need to remove the valve cover to check

 

So with a kid expected in February and dwindling Jeep work days before winter I'm now considering not getting the Long Arm this year. Problem is is that I have a broken leaf in the back so I have to do something. I have a parts ZJ I could take the front coils from if necessary. What would be the cheapest and/or best option for replacing the rear leaves? I prefer something drop in. Not many junk yards around and they'd probably want just as much as something I could get off Amazon.

Edit: I'm guessing I'll need new shocks? Just hate the fact that I might get everything replaced when I do the long arm. Maybe if those could be used on the ZJ with a 2"puck lift it wouldn't eat at my insides as much?

I also have some worn durarac 31s I'd like to be able to fit(was thinking I'd be able to fit them stock with some fender trimming and or a little extra bump stop).
