I'm pretty good with a wrench but I don't have any experience inside diffs and transfer cases. Yet. I'll obviously post some pictures up of the insides so you guys can tell me if anything looks bad to the point that I shouldn't run it, but I'm just curious is I need dial calipers or micrometers or any of those fancy tools.
snap ring pliers is the only "fancy" tool u need. As for the NP242, u ll also need #1 extractor to remove the roll pin so u can pull out the shift rail

That's for the front... rear is much easier.

Thanks, Bass! Essentially I need the info about what is behind the "pocket." They're pretty new springs but I have to try and lower the full weight onto them. Not sure it was done correctly the first time since there's a noticeable lift in the rear of the truck.

My 2000 came stock with that tranny cooler, ATF runs through that not coolant right?

my front wipers seem to have lost some power. they will start sticking (they will do the full motion but they jump if that makes sense) even if there is water on the window. is it "normal" or is it possible my wipers are starting to give up?

Correct. All of the automatic XJs came base with a heat exchanger integral to the radiator that uses the engine coolant to cool the ATF (or warm it, in the winter). The auxiliary coolers just let the ATF radiate to air.

Skipping wipers indicate that the rubber is drying up. A little blast of Rain-X will help lube them up a bit. That's one of the reasons I buy that fluid lol

I'm worried about my fuel pump going bad soon, I can't hear it buzz when I turn the key to "on" before start up. I assume this is a sign of it starting to die. Theres no other signs yet though, runs and drives perfect.

What is the brand that everyone goes with, Bosch correct?
