XJ Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
2000+ TJ Wrangler and WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.
XJ/ZJ blocks and 2000+ TJ/WJ blocks do not interchange without significant modifications. (1991 to 1995 YJ and 1997-1999 4.0L TJ Wrangler blocks will interchange in XJ/ZJ and visa-versa).
TJ/WJ 4.0L Engine blocks underwent clean sheet design changes effective in the 1999 WJ Grand and 2000 TJ Wrangler. These blocks are not interchangeable with XJ/ZJ engine blocks. The reason is motor mount bolt holes and belt driven accessory mounting bolt holes are in different locations, or not present at all, TJ/WJ vs. XJ/ZJ.

alright guys,
I'm stumped. The wife jeep is giving me fits. It's a 96 zj limited 4.0l. Its got the all time 4wd. I'm hoping this is something someone has some input in.
I have a random miss... Well it's more like a cross between a miss and "Oh my God, I'm gonna die! Wait no I'm fine now."
It's in no way consistent. It'll do it under a load or idling, but I can't seem to make it do it intentionally. It's died a few times within a minute or two of starting. When it's not acting up it runs great
I've been working on catching up maintenance so here's what's been changed recently:
Distributor
Cap and rotor
Ignition coil
wires
plugs
fuel filter
air filter
prolly a few things I'm missing cause it's 130
Random things I haven't gotten to include:
There's a tick/rattle when under load from the undercarriage. Fairly sure that's a u-joint going bad.
Rear main is leaking
Intending to stick a thermostat in in cause it hasn't been done
shocks are shot
need to grease anything with zerks
reinspect/re-clean grounds
I've got some oil burning somewhere, but it's not a lot -- just enough to make it stinky.
Don't thing any of those are related but I thought I'd throw in everything in case something is more important than I'm seeing. Been meaning to get to most of that but I've been waiting for a dry day in Washington
Would a crank sensor do something like this? I've had one make thing want to not start, but it doesn't seem to me like the crank sensor would do that. Not really wanting to throw more parts at it till I have more than just my thoughts on the matter. Any help would be appreciated.
Like I said, I'm stumped guys.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes I've searched for this seems that everyone has asked this question and noone has answered it. I just rewired my headlights due to corrosion under the air box, I ended up with four extra wires on the chassis side and can't seem too find where they go. I have a sneaky suspicion that they are for fog lights that were not equipped in my cherokee but since I can't seem too find a wire diagram for the chassis to headlight harness clip I'm unsure as to if I wired this correctly even tho everything works properly I'm ocd about extra loose wires.so my question is are the brown w white, white w green, light blue, and red w orange wires for fog lights that are not there? I seem to be getting power from both red orange wires.

Doing my oil filter adapter today, wondering what I should use to clean off the parts to monitor for leaks after. Purple Power? I'd hate to use something that could be flammable or destructive to surrounding parts.

Not sure about this! I need to bypass the Neutral Safety Switch, a one time thing, as the jeep is doa in a real nasty spot where crawling under isn't an option, once I can start it and move it to a safe dry and snow free spot I can remove/service/reinstall the NSS for now does anyone know which wires to bridge where you unplug the switch under the hood?
