x2 on this.. another big indicator that it's not factory is the flashing "blue" light. Most of the time, if the alarm is factory - in almost any vehicle - if there's a separate light for it, it's red.
Nevertheless, look for fused cables going to the battery, fuses in the fusebox in the engine compartment that are not listed in the diagram in the cover, or fuses in the interior fuse panel that are not listed. If it was installed by a retailer, they would have installed the supply power with a fuse in one of these locations. It's also possible that they could have used an empty fuse slot in one of these locations for supply power. If that is the case, look at the fuse diagram to see if there are fuses in any locations that do not correspond with options that you have (i.e. a fuse in power windows, but you do not have power windows - or - cruise control which you do not have, etc.)
Once you've located this, pull the fuse and that will kill power to the alarm. The best thing to do would be to remove the entire alarm system, but this will eliminate your problem until you can find someone you trust to remove it. It's hard to walk you through such a process without knowing what alarm it is as they are all very different and installers also differ in techniques as well.

This is why you will see aftermarket skid plates that do not work with, or have a different model for the 242.

My 95 cherokee doesn't have wing windows and I hate it, can I pull the wing windows along with the track and everything with it from an older door and bolt it into my door?

And if hubby is having to charge battery it might not be an alarm system drain but an alternator not doing its job.

You can buy new latches from the dealer. Or you can get assembly from the junkyard and replace it. I did both, the junkyard swap is easier if you can find one that works. Silicone grease will renew and reinvigorate the rubber as long as its not destroyed.

On the 242 the driver side portion that contains the front output shaft sits considerably lower than a 231. Like it is clocked differently. The case is also larger due to the center differential.
This is why you will see aftermarket skid plates that do not work with, or have a different model for the 242.

+1 1995 model year should have all the NVH and mismatched piston things sorted out.

Another question! What's the easiest way to get the shift handle off an auto? I had to destroy the one at the junkyard to get the cover off....don't want to destroy mine...it doesn't pull off either...

Straddle the center console, put the shifter in 1-2 gear range and pull. Be careful not to wack yourself in the noggin, done that several times. They just pull off, no screws or anything.
