If I have full normal power in 4 low I should have it in all drives 2wd and 4 hi. I think it may be linkage related.
Maybe there was a loose wire underneath and when you shifted it, the linkage caught it and damaged it?

Default 89 XJ Limited

My 89 XJ Limited with 70k miles experiences axle wrap in soft soil under throttle. What fixes are available for this?

As I said in the other thread:
Your best bet would be new springs, but you could run a torsion bar or look into longer leaf spring perches

How the heck do you unstick a seized front xj drive shaft slip joint?
I got a new 33" zj front shaft for my rear because the stock xj shaft from the front was a little too short. And since the shaft I had in the front was from a Manuel xj it was a little short so I took the shaft I had in the rear and tried putting it in the front.
Problem is the slip joint is seized and I can't get it to the right length to bolt up. I tried shooting grease in it with the zerk but it started coming from the slip shaft seal and not out the end. I put a pick in the end where the old grease is supposed to come out and it had grease in it still.
I went as far as putting a small hook around the u joint at the axle end and bolted it up to the transfer case, then I hooked a strap up to it and pulled it with my mom's avalanche. It drug the jeep skidding the tires and diddnt even move the slip.(not the best idea I know I know)
Any ideas guys?

Soak it in a tub of ATF + Acetone for a week and then dump it in a furnace?

If it's that seized it's not going to be good to use without serious machine work on the splines. Time for another shaft.

Question. I have rear discs in the back. I want to replace the stock soft lines I am using for piece of mind.

Can I replace them with any other 'same diameter' lines? Also, anyone route their lines under the spring perch? I currently have mine wrapping around the front of the perch in a tight U shape, going into the soft line that goes forward from the caliper.

What would be the reason for ones power steering pump fluid to be like a muddy brown? The fluid is only a few months old. The pump does howl a bit on start, it is also a few months old.

Contamination. Did you flush?

Not yet, guess that would be a good idea. It was just like an overnight thing.

I have Dorman ZJ replacement soft hoses. Wish they were longer. I suppose I could just find something the same size but longer since this isn't exactly the OE setup lol. Anyway, my hard line goes around the back of the spring perch, around the U bolts. Is that what you meant?

Make sure you check for leaks if you flush, and flush well. It only takes a little bit to kill a pump, and anything that's in there will want to stick to the oil on the sides of the hoses

Well ****. I'll go find a YouTube video on flushing. Honestly I'll probably just grab a spare pump and fluid since I have a 160mile drive home with an xj on the back!

Edit: I can steal the pump from the Jeep I'm towing just in case!

Kind of, except opposite. My hard line turns and aims towards the front of the Jeep, wraps 180 in a tight loop around the front of the perch, and then goes into the soft line. I drilled a hole in the soft line bracket to sit over the u bolt threads so I could make it 'stationary'.

I'll look and see if I can find a pic. My setup seemed to work for a while, but I am always open to better solutions lol.

There's an adjustment of the booster's rod into the back of the master cylinder.

Google "booster rod adjustment".
