my jeep doesnt leave the tarmac. and petrol is more like 10 bucks a gallon in nzd, we get charged by the litre. and its getting converted to liqufied petrolium gas or straight propane (yes bbq fuel) to usa folks. my buddy has his running on propane and it starts and runs fine. it is a dry fuel so i may look at petrol / propane mix havent decided yet
You don't need to 2WD swap. Remove the inner axle shafts and front drive shaft and you have a 2WD vehicle that just weighs a little bit extra.
However your best bet is to look into LPG like you said. Guys in the UK love those setups. FAR better return than spending thousands of dollars to eliminate 100 pounds of weight.

Even at $10/gal it will take an EXTREMELY long time to break even on the parts and labour. To swap a 4WD XJ to 2WD with decent used parts could be $100 if they're being thrown out or $2000 to buy, and at the minimum will take you several days, plus related consumables and hardware. For about 1 MPG average increase... maybe. How long do you plan on keeping the vehicle? It's a pretty bad ROI. Cheaper would be to find someone with a 2WD XJ and offer them a straight trade.

Bottom line, the most efficient way for you to REVERT to 2wd would be as Salad said... remove your front driveshaft and gut the front axle.
month #4 of this POS still not starting.
I am at my breaking point.
no spark, no injector pulse.
New Mopar CPS
New Coil
New Fuel pump
New Distributor Pickup Sensor
New Cap, Plugs, Wires, Rotor
Tried a verified working PCM to no avail
I feel like I've tried everything, and I am going nuts....
If I cant find a solution soon, its gonna go out to pasture.
If anyone has any suggestion that'd be great.
I'm in serious need of helppppppp!
Thanks in advance!

What you want to do is look at the fuel injector connectors. The older style had a Jetronic connector - it's rectangular with broad blades. The Neon xxx703 injectors use this connector. The newer style (officially '99+) uses a USCAR connector, which is rounded and has much smaller pins.
EV1 body with Jetronic connector is top in this photo, EV6 body with USCAR is bottom:
Engine number won't mean much. What changed was related to the fuel system... but it's impossible to tell without actual factory records. What you want to do is look at the fuel injector connectors. You have to pull the fuel rail off when doing the exhaust manifold, correct? Good time to add these fuel injectors I've been holding onto for a year then, huh? Anything I should do to clean them out from sitting for a year?

Hi guys, just bought my first Jeep today and I'm having a few issues with it as expected. It's a 1991 xj and the dome light under the hood doesn't work. All the wires look in good condition. So is it a fuse or what? Thanks for the help.

Did you check and see if you are getting power to the bulb socket...start there.
