I wondered the same thing,Whats the best Brand or Rebuilds ? I know that the Water Pumps for my 1999 Sport Rebuilds wont happen anymore. Bottom line Old School parts or New Crap ? Sorry for going off topic but it goes hand in hand

Am I suppose to pack outer wheel bearings on an 8.25 with grease?

Or does the diff fluid lube them?

Don't go rebuilt ones, they're trash and crap out after like 4 months in my experience, find a low mileage one off of a parts jeep.

It's a float. Crap clogs up the moving part and the float don't float no mo.

Depends on the year. For example the same starter fits 99-01 XJs, 99-02 WJs, and 99-02 TJs. It's probably just whatever generation of 4.0L

Rebuilt water pumps? Never used one but that's really sketchy... cavitation is not really fixable. Some parts you always want new.

Yes and yes. Once you get the bearings and seal installed smear grease everywhere. This makes sure the axle shaft doesn't tear the dry seal and also gives the bearings protection before the oil makes its way over there.

I put a new one on the MJ three weeks before I totaled it. Took it off and put it on the YJ, same part number. Bonus points cause both Jeeps still had the original Mitsubishi starters on them when I got them

'88 MJ to '93 YJ.

According to AutoZone.com, their Duralast starter is the same part number for '87-98 4.0L motors

my quick question is: has anybody got a photo of the 2wd xj front end? i live in a rhd country. and want to turn my xj into a 2wd version. i could re use the rhd steering box but im not sure if the lhd and rhd mounts in the same place? i just want to know where everything goes before i buy the parts. yes i know the 2wd gearbox needs a longer driveshaft.

Any where does your cherokee run on the dash gauge when out on the trail. Thanks, RSWiser

Well after trying all other remedies to halt my over heating, I decided to go back to OEM cooling.

This morning I removed the three electric fans, reinstalled the clutch fan and the electric fan. Also replaced my thermostat. One other thing, I replaced the radiator cap.

Went for a drive up a steep canyon overlook road. Temp stayed at 210 or below. Perfect.

As my mechanic told me. Jeep spent millions on engineering. If they thought electric fans would do the job they would have used them.

A case of OEM being better than after market.

One question, what is the correct pressure rating on the radiator cap?

I'm not a fan of electric fan conversions except for a few select situations, but it's one of those things people are convinced will help. Anyway, glad your problem is fixed. You want a pressure cap between 13-16 PSI. The difference in boiling point between those pressures is less than 10°F. I run a 16lb cause I think it's OEM spec.

Thanks for the info. I think part of my overheating problem might have been the 11 Lb radiator cap. That cap came with the crappy Aluminum radiator I used for a few short wheeling trips before it broke.

Why on earth do you want to "convert" to 2WD???

Probably because gasoline is like $5/gallon USD in AUS.
