i currently have re monotube shocks on my 3.5 re lift for my xj but these shocks are very loud and obnoxious in the front, they are 3.5" in travel but im looking at the bilstein 5100 series front shocks that have 5-6" travel. does it matter if these shocks have a larger travel distance than my lift itself?

Default 99 ongoing cold problem

99 4.0 185,000 miles. This problem started last November. Either really hard cold start followed by stalling and sometimes backfiring, because I'm feathering throttle to keep it going. Or starts up fine then stumbles, stutters, sometimes stalls. Engine light comes on momentarily but never stays on. No codes thrown.
By the time I get about 2 miles this all stops and runs fine. I drove 1600 miles this summer on a vacation with 5 people in jeep, no problems. I only have dummy gages so can't tell what temp. is when it starts running fine.
Now that temperatures are getting colder here in Ohio problem is rearing it's ugly head again.
I have checked grounds, replaced cps, cleaned tps, replaced battery and had alternator checked.
Several years ago replaced ECM. Thought original went bad but was a short in wiring harness. I also checked Fuel pressure at the rail, which was within specs and cut out cat because suspected it was bad. Any help would be appreciated

Grab a multimeter and check the ECT and IAT sensors against this chart:

Also what are you using that won't pull a code? There should be some pending if or some old freeze data.

It was replaced 11/16/2012, Airtex brand. Also after reading different threads I was going to do the plugs/wires and clean the TBI to start.

After you get your tune-up done you might wanna rent a fuel pressure testing kit.

Sorry, I accidentally posted this earlier without any quotes.

I replaced my plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. All the plugs looked great. I did mess up the order of the wires by 1 and had to fix that. Then it ran better about a day. Also, I did not drive it more than 30 miles I would say and it looks like I burned almost 1/4 tank. Then the day I decided to stretch it's legs on the road it threw a check engine light before I even left the drive way. P0301. I hope this isn't because of something I did? Also, I see some people saying to test my #1 fuel injector and others saying it's the CPS. Which should I do?

Tried to jump it and it wouldn't hold a charge (also tried slow charge), ended up replacing the battery. Ever since it has been occasionally hard to start at random times (3-5 sec of cranking) and when this happens it idles rough and rich. Now the gas gauge has decided to join in the fun with occasionally reading empty. I originally thought I was having electrical issues but now I am not sure what I should be looking at or even if the two are related. I have replaced the fuel pump almost two years ago now... and if it is going out again, grrrrr. Also, it's coming up on 150k and I haven't given it a tune up in the 2 years I have owned it, but it has always fired up and ran amazing post fuel pump replacement until the battery incident. And (sheesh I keep adding stuff) it is not throwing any codes at all.
OMG I keep messing up this quote stuff up!

Test the fuel system first. There will always be people saying it's the CKP, even if the problem has nothing to do with it.

Also I strongly suggest starting a new thread to keep the issue coherent. Ask the Question is a really poor venue for ongoing troubleshooting

I accidentally ripped my exhaust off this weekend on the trails (well I broke part of it, and purposely ripped the rest off). For now I just have a downturn coming right off behind the cat. Anyways, with this new configuration, I noticed a huge loss of power. Is that normal for losing that length of exhaust?

Its only temporary until I can afford to get the exhaust replaced professionally.
