XJ Ask the Question Thread
Hi, I've got a 95 XJ 4.0 HO. The other day it started making a slight grinding noise near what at first seemed to be the front end, but then also sounded like it could be coming from the t-case area.
It does it at very low speeds, 10mph and less. It happens both slowing down and taking off, but once it's up to speed I don't hear it anymore. I do notice it more if I'm taking off on a slight incline, but once again disappears as soon as I get up to speed.
At first it sounded like something on the wheels like bearings or brakes, so I changed the brakes and still there. Maybe the t-case or something else? I'm not sure, its got me stumped! Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Hanging??? How does removing a drive shaft make something dangerous? The control arms and suspension would remain intact... No sharp edges...
DS weighs 20 pounds max leave it in and do LPG if it's such a problem (which I really don't see). I really believe you are overthinking this.

Yup, sounds like heatsoak. It has nothing do with with any maintenance you have done, or the condition of the parts. Theres not much you can really do about it, Its just because of the design of the motor. The fuel injectors get so hot that the fuel that sits inside them boils (when the car isn't running) so they end up misfiring when you go to use them again. After a while, theres enough new fuel that it will run properly. Jeep's fix was wrapping the injectors in a type of insulation to keep them cooler.

So quick question (maybe not)....I'm trying to figure out what mopar oil filters besides the MO-090 cross references the Motorcraft FL1-A. The mopar is the same thread pitch but a shorter filter. I tried searching for a bit but no results.

Hardly. You might try laying some sort of heat deflecting material like woven fiberglass under the injectors, or get some hood vents, they reduce under hood temps by allowing more airflow throughout.
