30mph and running at 4000rpms...Ive asked a few different questions since I joined the forum. My jeep is falling apart on me. I just turned it on and it started revving real high, sounded like it was getting ready to buck on me. I turned it off and back on....and had to go 35mph the whole way home because the rpms were real high.

Heres what has been happening lately:

I turn my car on and drive out of the driveway when I hit the accelerator it feels like it bogs down a little and I have to hit the gas again and then it goes...

Also, every now and then when I'm idling it will sound like someone is hitting the gas and revving it up, sometimes it starts running crappy and bucks on me at stop lights. 2 days ago it bucked on me and then stalled out.

As I said at the beginning, just now the rpms have been crazy--and revving on

I did a tune up today, and the 02 sensors are new. This thing just keeps getting worse..
Please please please I need help. Thanks guys!

Could be my Throttle Position Sensor? Also, I heard that it could be my Idle Air Control Valve? Any Comments?

sounds like it could be a tranny problem, Star out slowly and count how many times it shift that will tell you if its going into all the gears.

Default firing issue

I gots an '88 cherokee wagoneer that wont start right. it'll fire, but only after (turning over, cranking?) it for 15+ seconds. and it sputters when its about to fire, like its sounds slightly more successful in fully starting till it finally does start. Is that cuz low fuel? CPS?

I have 2 questions...

I've got a 98 Cherokee SE, 4.0, 4wd, 148,000 miles.

1) Whenever I'm going slow (like 3mph literally) I hear a kind of popping, sliding, grinding noise from the front end. I'm in 2wd when it happens. Doesn't happen when I'm stopped or while driving any faster. Just like parking lot speeds.

2) After I shut the truck off, I hear a weird popping and gurgling sound out back. I'm wondering if it's the gas tank or maybe air in a fuel return line or something. It also smells warm sometimes, but not like coolant or overheating, bit it smells more like a bonfire. Strange, I know.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone?? I'm thinking the steering has an issue somewhere and the smell may just be a decade+ of abuse but I want to hear it from the experts.

Sounds like a couple of problems:
If you are at 4000 rpm at 30 mph, the transmission is not shifting when it should. This could be caused by the kickdown cable broken/jammed/misadjusted. (This is the cable that goes from the throttle body to the transmission). If it is stuck fully extended, the transmission will think you have the accelerator on the floor, and will not upshift till about 5000 rpm. As previous poster replied, count the shifts as you accelerate - I suspect your transmission is staying in First. Internal transmission problems could also cause the transmission to not shift.
The Idle Air Control Valve regulates the idle speed of the engine. If it was stuck closed, the engine would idle way too slow, and stall easily. If it was stuck open, the engine would rev up, but in my experience it's only big enough to get the engine up to 2500 RPM or so, even with no load (transmission in Neutral). It would not explain why the transmission is not upshifting.

Replace IAC and check fuel pressure when it bogs down, if low replace fuel pump.

Check your fuel pressure, most probably the check valve in the fuel pump is bad, you can put an aftrmarket one on the line near the tank.

If you put it on the line near the tank, would you have to take the old (bad) pump off first? Or retire it in place?

If the pump is good but just the check valve is bad, you cut the hose attched to the sending unit and you put the new valve there.
First of all, i would bleed the air out of the fuel rail and check the pressure.

Thanks guys for all of your help. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor last night, and the 02 fuse and it seems to be working great...However, I get up this morning to leave and my engine won't fully start. It just cranks for 15 seconds. It has fuel getting through, and it seems to have pressure. Is there a way to determine whether its my starter? Kind of weird that it suddenly did that...

yesterday i tested my TPS with a digital multimeter using instructions that i got; it turned out that the tps was faulty so i had it replaced with a new one

my jeep is not cutting of anymore and is idling much better; however there is still a bit of intermitent idle and i still get a flat spot during acceleration.

I have noticed that the engine revs up to 10,000 rpms; and breaks down to about one stroke before the zero marking on the RPM gauge before revving back up to just about 10,000 rpms

anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing the interment idle & and flat spot

WOW, 10,000 R’s. I can see an engine doing it once but I’m amazed it will do it again. That’s almost twice red line.

Did you mean 1,000 RPM?

Default 99 Cherokee woes

Where do I find the low pressure AC port on a 99 Cherokee Sport with an inline 6?
