How much does the rear axle loose / gain in length during wheel travel? Reason I'm asking is that new driveshaft I picked up, and I'm wondering how much spline travel I should have left on the slip yoke @ the transfer case. Any easy way to figure this out with geometry? I imagine the rear axle has a relatively easy path since it doesn't have control arms
Ahh, I forgot about the shackles coming into the equation! Duh. I imagine with the fixed front point too, you don't get much at all. I was just worried I screwed myself with the slip yoke driveshaft cause if it slammed into my t-case it'd explode! ha ha. It has a good inch+ of travel forward and 3-4" backwards, so I think I'm good
Just worried cause when I tilt my pinion it will eat up a smidge of that length from pointing closer.
Obviously I meant the driveshaft length, not axle length

Hello all,
haven't posted on the forum many times, but I use it often and it's a very valuable resource to me. I appreciate everyone's input!
Question:
To do an a/c delete (a/c hasn't worked since I've had the car), is it absolutely necessary for me to get an a/c bypass pulley? Or, can I just pull the a/c and all related components, leaving just the other two belts?
When I look at the motor while running, I don't notice any potential issues with just removing the a/c stuff, belt and all. But, I am by no means a professional mechanic. I've done some searching on this forum and the internet in general, and have read a few threads/articles about a/c deletes and they all mention the bypass pulley. Also, these threads link to a parts number for the pulley, but they don't have a bypass pulley listed for my make/model/year/motor.
As a side note, I'm not interested in getting on-board air in this vehicle, although the build threads that are out there for the a/c compressor mod are pretty sweet. Just interested in cleaning up the engine bay a little.
Thanks

the design is different, even If you fit the door, it will be a lot of work and it would look very different

How are you supposed to shift into 4wd if you are stuck and not already in 4wd?
For example:
Went on vacation to Mexico to come one to my lovely xj surrounded by 3ft of snow. How do you shift into 4wd when you obviously can't shift on the fly, I know 4hi won't engage while stopped since the movement itself is what engages the 4wd. I hear 4lo is shift on the fly too, but at like 2-3mph to mesh the gears together. But can you shift into 4 hi or lo while stopped without grinding when you start your xj? I don't see the shift on the fly as a feature but an Inconvince in situations when you can't be moving, like being stuck

Not true, pull coil plug, leave ignition forward, go steal more stuff, then hop in and crank over!

Lol good point. My ignition in my xj locked forward and would not rotate to shut off. I had to pull the plug, battery and then the steering wheel and swap the cylinder out. What a pain all for a ignition.
That's why I gave that situation.

Where is the clip/harness that you remove / solder for the Crankshaft position sensor on a 00 XJ? Ive tried following wires and have done about 30 searches and all i get is how to replace CPS... and it just a mass of confusion. any help will be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: looking for the harness / clip in the engine bay that they say to remove and solder the wires together.

1989 xj 4.0 AW 4 My Jeep quit running in the driveway about 1 month ago. After researching the no spark issue i unplugged the CPS and plugged it back in and i was up and running again. Not knowing that was only the start of my CPS problem. Fast forward 1 month and it quits while driving and i end up paying 90 bucks for the tow home !! Long story short the dealer does not have a CPS in stock so I buy a Napa premium, put it in and still no spark ! i test it and it reads .1 V ! my question is should i drill the holes out
bigger on it to move it closer to the flywheel or should i wait for 3 weeks and get one from the dealer ?? Thanks in advance for the help guys !!
