XJ Ask the Question Thread
Friends jeep i put a lift on did that. I had 1/8 steel so i drilled a hole and plug welded i on and run a bead around it. Same as a washer i suppose. The driver side sleeve was seized to the bolt so i had to torch the leaf open to get it out. Pain in the ***.

Yeah I spent the rest of the good daylight working on the front eye. Cut away completely the wrap and the outer sleeve of the shackle, cut a bit of the inner sleeve that was protruding and amazingly the rest was not completely seized :S Angle grinder + rubber bushing = teh stinky

Until you get new ones, go into neutral with parking break on or in park, crawl under and force the lever right by the transfer case into submission to 2wd (it helps if you have someone inside pushing on the lever at the same time)

Considering that the 4.0 XJ is always running hot, I was thinking that perhaps I could remove the black fuzzy heat shield / insulation (which is half soaked in oil and coolant from various past malfunctions) from the hood to allow more heat to escape.
I don't care about the hood getting freakishly hot, but someone told me that they think the paint will be damaged by the heat if I remove that insulation.
Anybody know for sure?

Looks like its getting removed first thing tomorrow, then. Anybody have tips on how to get those plastic rivet things out, or will I simply need to cut it out?

Once the link is removed, I just try to pry them out with pliers or cut them out. You can hammer them out too if on a bench. the new ones are easy to push in with channel lock pliers.

I mean the connecting rods between the transfer case and the lever. Its also adjustable.
Edit. I just remembered that the link has the male end of the connections. The plastic pieces are on the other ends.. sorry, its been a while.
