I'm back home now since i ran out of time. it doesn't look bad at all but just had a weary feeling. Tomorrow I need to tackle those two E12 inward torx's on top of the tranny and then the motor should pop out.

i need to tighten my belt on my jeep. am i fine to do this without a belt tension gauge? or should i not attempt to tighten my belt without a gauge? i had it replaced recently and it has loosened and is squeaking at start up.

I've never used a gauge before. Tighten it up till it don't squeak anymore.

Is the tension gauge called a krikit or krikit2?If so. DO NOT USE IT! Dumbest and inaccurate piece of poo there is. I had used it to set my belt to the lower of the tension spec(130 I believe) and it few months down the road my water pump dies(bearings were shot) took it out and you could see where the pressure of the belt was pulling causing the bearing to wear prematurely and cause the fins to rub/cut in to the water pump housing.

The more detailed method involves running it on a cold day/morning and tighten till it stops, then take it for a drive, tighten if necessary if it squeals, then last is to put on the A/C or defroster and then drive some more and tighten if necessary if it still squeals. And that should set it for good. I've done that and only now on the coldest of morning will it squeal with the defroster on.
