XJ Ask the Question Thread
Looking for some info on the outer axle seals i see advertised. I have searched the site numerous times about these seals with no result. I have a 1995 xj, with the d-30. my axle seals are leaking so in the process of collecting parts to replace u-joints, seals... and so on. Has any one used these outer seals instead of the cheap plasic oem ones? If so would you recomend them?

Today while driving my 98xj I noticed my voltage meter drop significantly I had the radio heat wipers and rear defrost on. I shut all off and the meter went back up so I started turning things on and off to see if it would drop again. That's when I noticed that is was the rear defrost that was causing the voltage drop. I have a gel battery that is only a few months old. So I am assuming it is not the battery. Has anyone had this problem or heard of this happening?

I want to make sure you understand something about these. These are NOT to fix leaky inner axle seals. If your axle seals are leaking, they need to be replaced. These are just fancy dust caps.

But do they work as fancy dust caps? I found quite a bit of dirt in the tube when I changed my u-joints and I thought this product would be just the thing needed to keep some of that out. Has anyone used this product or similar products that replace the plastic junk that is already on the axle?
I didn't want to start a new thread for this. Has anyone made removeable doors for their 2 door? I have read the threads about cutting the hinge, but didn't know if this was recommended with the extra weight and length of the 2 door doors.
Today on an icy road I shifted into 4WD High and went immediately into reverse. I heard a clunk/rattle sound that I've never heard before (T-case chain upset with me?). Is it safe to shift into 4WD and then go straight into reverse?

Hi Everyone, looks like a very informative forum!
I have recently purchased my first Jeep. It's a 1994 XJ Cherokee Ltd. 4.0L, 6 Cyl, Petrol.
It's also my first American car too!
Since day one, we had overheating problems, mainly because of a massive water leak! We had to get the vehicle home so used some 'Stop Leak' in the cooling system. Now, I have just replaced a bottom radiator hose, water pump, thermostat and drive belt. I proceeded to flush all the stop leak stuff out and refill with clean water/antifreeze mix.
The temp gauge is sitting around the 100 degree Celsius (212 f) mark. It fluctuates a little bit when the car is accelerating/braking/turning sharply. I figure that the gauge is probably not 100% accurate.
I have done some searching but have only managed to find answers for either earlier or later model Cherokee's...
My question is, is my temperature sitting normal?
Thanks in advance,
Jared

Did you backflush the cooling system when you flushed it? It sounds like you may have some build up in your cooling system that is causing it to run a little hot, other than that you've already replaced pretty much everything else that would cause that problem. I'd also suggest cleaning off the exterior of your radiator, they tend to accumulate crap over time that can seriously diminish air-flow and thus cooling capacity.
