Does it shift into neutral when you come to a stop or make a hard turn?

Well, I usually have a puddle of tranny fluid where I park it overnight which gets cleaned up once a week. When I go to my office, I usually take a smoke break and stare at da Jeep. Today I noticed that it had not dropped a single bit of tranny fluid which is wierd because it marks her territory within 5 minutes of being parked. The dipstick shows full (actually a little over) and the rig is really smooth with no wierd new noises or anything. Maybe it was over filled, is there a way for the tranny to expell overflow? I remember flushing a tranny on one of my 94 mustang GT's, was not sure how much fluid it took so I kept going till I got a thumbs up on the dipstick. However I think I overfilled it and there was fluid coming out from one particular spot under the car. It stopped after about a minute and never leaked again. Sorry for the rant!!!

All auto trannies have a vent, but some Jeeps have an extension hose on there to keep it from ingesting water when going through deep water. When overfilled most auto trannies will blow out excess fluid through the vent, but I don't think that can happen on a Jeep. JMO
Is your vent hose still hooked up?

would a failing CAMshaft Sensor cause random misfires?

I changed the oil in my Rig today. The local Advanced Auto was running a special on royal Purple so I figured I would give it a try. This is the first time I have changed the oil since I bought it. I have no idea what the PO ran. I put about 1/2 a quart in the filter and 5 1/2 in the engine. After i was done I heard a slight knocking sound that I didn't hear before. Any thoughts?

Yes a failing CPS will cause a mis fire, but most of the time the cps just stops working all together!

Did you over fill motor with you royal purple? How much is recomended (what motor)?

As long as its reading corectlly on the dip you should be fine! If it gets worse then start to worry about it,

Pre Oil change the level was fine and I did measure how much I took out and I believe I am about a quart heavy. Could overfill be the source of the knock?

not that I've ever heard of. drain out the extra and see if that helps. IF not its possible that you dislodged a piece of sludge that is now clogging something and thus parts are being starved of oil.
If you have sludge, the best quick cheap fix is dino oil along with 2 quarts of auto trans fluid. I'll explain in a second why that can help fix the problem

Automatic transmission fluid is engineered to put up with a ton of abuse...as a result its very high in detergents that happen to be good at dissolving sludge and other nasties inside an engine. If you run that "Flush" through it, should clean out the engine really nicely.

(you can drain and save the royal purple, just run it through a coffee filter to get any globs of crap out)

Hey guys,
Great thread here.
I have a 91 cherokee sport that does not have a tach. It has the lame gauge cluster with a giant fuel gauge and a 4 idiot lights. I want to swap a cluster in from a different cherokee, that has a tach and all the gauges.
Is my cherokee wired for a swap like this or am I going to have to re-wire everything to make the tach and gauges work?
Thanks in advance!
Dylan

Wiring is all the same, however you will need to swap some sensors to get the normal gauges to work. Well worth the time and effort involved IMO.

eventually(dreaming here) I'd like to get a full set of autometer gauges for my XJ and make them look stock
