Can you elaborate a little more on swapping the sensors? Anything too tricky or know of any write-ups about it? Thanks for the quick reply!

Default Lift...and overall height???

Hi folks..one more noob to ask silly questions....but I'm planning on a lift on my 2000 XJ for next year. My question is how much lift to install if I plan on fitting under a 6' 6" entry door? So, for example if I go with a 4.5" lift with 32" tires, will I still fit?

I read somewhere else that an XJ's overall height plus roof rack (that i'll eventually remove) is around 5' 6". That means I have a foot of clearance to play around with??? Thanks for the input.

oh, and more info on diff lockers would be nice, I got lost on all the other threads reading up on them. I still don't know what to go for and how to go about making matching everything.

Not super tricky, basically all the sensors for the stupid lights are single switches, either they're on or off. the ones for the gauges are variable, meaning that they output a range of readings, not just on or off. From what I know you need to swap the coolant temp sensor, oil pressure sensor and I'm not sure about the one for the electrical gauge or for the tachometer.

you figure 4.5" of height gain for the lift, along with 2" for the gain in tire heigh, putting you at 6.5" higher than stock, still well within the height to get under a 6'6" door.

Do the lift first, lockers are a big project to get into and aren't exactly cheap...plus the labor to install them and if you have a Dana 35 an axle swap is needed before ever thinking about lockers.

Not so much a knock, but it can cause your lifters to tick!

hey guys,

so i herc'ed the inside of the xj, looks great.

I bought this high temperature (up to 500 degrees) sealant for closing up the edges, but for some reason it couldnt be painted over... so i did the bed liner and was thinking i would seal it up afterwards.

now that its done, it looks pretty sealed up already, and I'm thinking the sealant would be useless inside, on top of the herculiner.

so should I still seal it on the inside? (its clear so it shouldnt be too unsightly) or should I get underneath and seal up the edges of the parts of metal I just put in? do i need to seal other stuff from underneath too?

yes, I replaced some big parts of the floor pan.

in hindsight I feel like i didnt really need that high of a temperature sealant, and should have just gotten one that was paintable. i was just worried having it be right over the muffler and cat.

Whats wrong with the 242? At least I can use 4wd on the roads and there doesn't have to be a blizzard going on.

Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to have a 242. However I'm pretty sure he has the NP228/229 and not the 242. yes 87 was the cut-off year and if he has the 242 its all good. However if he has the 228/229 then it is a POS...kinda like the BA10/5

nothings wrong with a 242. if the year is correct I doubt he has a 242, it would be a 229 or something like that (cant remember the #) that's a piece of crap

edit: dang it Zachsxj beat me to it
