Sorry if i'm just bein stupid, long night at work and i've never really stopped and looked at my radiator til now.
Take a pic o the front. The AC condenser is also up front too. The tranny cool is only about 4"-6" tall and 10-12" wide and sits right begin the grill. Aftermarket ones are slightly larger and more square

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the forum and I'm looking for some advice about my first welder.

I'm looking into getting a welder soon so that I can do fabrication related projects for the jeep. Bumpers, roof rack, light bar, discos, etc. I've been doing research on welders and I'm looking for something that I can learn on, and use for these types of projects. I think that MIG would be a good place to start but I'm not sure whether to go with Flux core or gas.

I've seen these two packages from Home Depot and Lowe's that interest me:

http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardw...1#.USEozFrwIkc

and

http://www.lowes.com/pd_368934-1703-...roduct_price|0

what do you guys think? Any recommendations for a noob?

Thanks,
Brandon

I'd get something a little hotter than that, you want to be able to weld at LEAST 3/16 to build bumpers, if you stepped up to maybe a 140 amp machine, you could do about anything you wan to the jeep. I defiantly wouldn't get either of the ones you linked of you wanna build bumpers.

Yeah you'll need way more than 88 amps. My friends got a 70amp and it's useless.

I have a 96 Cherokee. 4.0. 176k miles. Completely stock.

I'm getting 10mpg and I have no idea why. It seems to run perfectly. Idles very smooth. I never use AC or anything. The only problems I've noticed is that sometimes when I'm going up a hill I can push the pedal through the floor and not get any response at all.. I'll make it up the hill but it's obviously a struggle for the engine. This only happens occasionally. Also, when at low RPMs (mostly notice it when cornering) I sometimes notice a loud growling noise. It sounds like it's coming from the exhaust, but I'm not sure. Either the exhaust or the rear diff. Somewhere in the back. I drive like a grandpa and getting 10mpg is killing me. Could it really be something as simple as spark flugs/tune up stuff? Anyone else with a 96? What kind of MPGs are you getting?
I had the same problem when I first got my Jeep a tune up definitely will help, also air filter, get all fluids replaced, at one point I did a tune up and put some of that engine restore/stop leak stuff in my crankcase and that seemed to help a heck of a lot my Jeep hauled but for a while,I know I had to replace my exhaust because it was rusted and I was losing combustion and gas mileage from it...any ways Hope this helps.

I don't know much about welding or welders, but to save tie i would go for the most powerful one you can find that uses a standard 120v outlet.

Google nss cleaning. Few hours of work and you can save $$$$

It's more like the last straw for this vehicle, I've put close to $1000 into it in the last year and would rather it be someone else's problem if it's not a small issue

Nope need a new breaker. Something you can get at home depot and VERY simple to wire.

When it ran, I used to have to start it up in Neutral occasionally. Mostly if I drove and tried to restart after a few minutes. But now even that trick is not working.

No. It requires adding another circut to your house.

On a side note. I have a linkoln weld pack100 and I weld 1/4 steel all day. Its onky 100 amps. Any welder from harbor freight sucks and is a waste of $$
