You need to drain the tranny before dropping the pan, it all comes out anyway. The transmission itself only has about 50% of the system's total fluid in it - the rest is in the torque converter and cooler.

The slipping nonsense is largely perpetuated by this one ancient GM transmission that did not hold up to abuse. In reality, fresh fluid with fresh detergents, or a forceful power flush, can knock buildup loose in a severely neglected transmission. Just like if you only did engine oil changes every 30k lol.

Drain, drop pan, filter, gasket, close it up, refill with new D/M. Done many times before.

 

He's probably heard bad things about transmission flushes. Like any other flush, there's a risk that the pressure will dislodge sludge that's covering cracks/holes. It doesn't cause problems, but a flush can unveil existing problems.

Simply draining and filling your trans fluid is a good thing.

 

If you ask 5 people if you should or shouldn't change your trans fluid guaranteed at least one will hit you with "don't do it or your trans will never be the same" I'm surprised you've never heard that before.

I work in a shop full of old dudes. So that's probably why I hear it so often.




That's the main argument people make. The new fluid has all the detergents and whatever nonsense. Do I believe it? Not really but that's why I figured I'd ask.




That's exactly what I've heard. But technically I won't be doing a full flush. Just changing the fluid in the pan then ill wait a little and do it again.

What is everyone's opinion on 16x7 with 265/75R16?

 

31x10.50's would be fine on that size rim.. But if it were me I'd stick to 15's but if you already have either the rims or the tires than that's fine

 

The thing I am worrying bout is the backspace on the 16x8 is 5, isn't that to much?

Okay I am fairly new to jeeps. I was driving the other day about 50mph. Pressed the pedal to passing gear.Loud POP ! Was stuck in first until I changed the filter /fluid. Now wont go all the way into park unless I cram it in. No reverse or nuetral, if you try to accel when in reverse or nuetral it acts like the e brake is on and will only rev to about 2k and tries to move but wont.On my indicator even N is drive????? Is it a linkage issue? HELP ME PLEASE !

 

Is there a physical difference between the drain and fill plug on the np231? Can you flip flop them? They seem to both have a magnet.
