Do you all know if a factory tc skid fits both a 231 and 242?

So far I have replaced the raiditor - thermostat - and water pump, I did manage to get it to start but it has a rough idle and a lot of oil smoke blowback when you remove the dip stick or oil fill cap, it also ran hot in the yard sitting idle after a few minuets even with the new parts - My thoughts are it needs a head gasket or a head reworked, what are some ways to define the problem?

Thanks for any help
Is there a whitish residue around the oil fill cap?

Not sure, for after market skids they do require you check either the np231 or 242 so the aftermarket ones are for sure different.

It seems I may be forever saying this, but clean and put dielectric grease on all of the electrical connections under your hood. Then clean all of your grounds. If you haven't done this, (just got the jeep) it can be the cause of a lot of sin. If nothing else it'll make it run better. use this link as reference for cleaning your grounds. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/cr...7/#post2114702

I know I've brought this up on this thread before, but it's cheap and it works.

Les....My clunk when I would go over RR tracks or speed bumps ended up being my sway-bar end links. I went ahead and replaced the sway bar bushings as well though. I think someone else answered your steering slop concern, adjust the steering gear.

Just to clarify, you can NOT reuse a 1998 clockspring from a crashed XJ whose airbags were deployed, correct?
