They might bolt up ok, but the 97+ wraps all the way around, where as the 96- stops at the rear.

It blows hot like it's supposed to just wondering why the compressor is running.
Is this normal or is there a wire crossed somewhere?
Normal actually. The compressor is supposed to come on with the two defrost positions whenever outside temp is above freezing. Kinda lame, I'm wiring in a cut switch.

Yes this is normal. The purpose is to dry the air for better defrosting. All cars will do this.

Awhile ago got a bunch of water inside and my rear defroster quit working. Switched around the relays using the horn relay, etc. still nothing. Flicking the switch does nothing, no light and no defrosting in the year. Any other components in missing? 98 classic too.
