I want to raise the idle to run my 9000 lb. winch. Can you read or are you stupid?
Where do taxpayer funds figure in here? I am a private citizen and I bought this jeep with my own money. Your reading comprehension is deplorable and something you should be ashamed of.

He is talking about police xjs but he didn't think about police officers jumping off people's cars for them or winching people out of ditches in the snow or runnin emergency lights at the scene of an accident I love *******es who hate on cops.
Sorry salad, if I had seen that was your post I wouldn't have been such an ******* about it.

Yes, I was originally referring to "a police officer", and just like bhennessee1 said I wasn't aware that it would increase the alternator output. I'm used to AC generators where the RPM of the engine is governed as it maps to the output frequency, and greater load is accommodated by just dumping more fuel & air in. But way to respond to a 7 1/2" month old post. I've actually got the parts now to set up the high idle switch myself and plan on doing it soon. I am sorry that your sense of sarcasm is apparently as bad as my reading comprehension. Don't you think "FOAD" is a little extreme...? Chill out man.

Asked this before but im seeking more opinions. A week after I replaced the clutch in my 98 xj it started making a noise. I dont think its clutch related, and it didnt start until a week or so after the replacement. It makes what sounds like a constant exhaust tick and I only hear it at idle once its warm. When I first turn it on I let it warm up, then its not til I drive for a few minutes and then stop at a light and it gets back down to idle. If I rev it up a little bit you hear it increase in speed then after 1000rpm or so it goes away. Also, it doesnt always make the noise, just most of the time at warm idle, comes and goes. I replaced the metal exhaust donut and it didnt solve the issue. I can also only hear the noise when Im sitting in the Jeep, it sounds like its coming from the firewall area so Im wondering if the exhaust manifold is cracked. When I crawl under I cannot hear it but it may be because the exhaust note is louder however from the interior its easily noticable. I replaced the intake/exhaust manifold gasket a few months back however the new gasket seemed like a paper material rather than the original metal gasket. I also noticed the other day that around some of the intake ports the gasket was wet. Could the gasket have gotten wet and blown out and I need a new, metal gasket? I gave the muffler and cat a wack and no noise, however It seems like its coming from the firewall area. This is driving me NUTS

See if you can a piece of hose to use as a stethescope to listen around the engine bay. Exhaust manifold cracks generally form at the collector, so you should be able to narrow down the ticking to there.
On the other hand, you Americans can get pretty nice prices on exhaust manifolds (I think I saw a link to $160 for one that sold for like $300 up here! Dorman unit with bellows on cyls 1 and 6). If it isn't cracked right now it probably will be soon, could just replace it and get the proper gasket. This is what I put on (shop cost about $320, but someone on here linked similar for half that)

The ticking could be lots of other things too. Best is to listen around with a hose.

I have a fuel leak at fuel rail with supply line. What would this part be called at auto store? Need hardware too. And jeep only gets fuel if key is still in cranking position?
