I am probably going to go to ACE tomorrow and just pick up some threaded rod, but I need to make the J part of it with out heat. Because I don't have a torch If I can bend the metal myself I don't think I'd trust it to hold up my new tank full of gas. Any quick suggestions? Sorry for those of you who have seen my other posts and already helped out.

alright..... so i have an 06 wrangler engine in my jeep that i put in after it got a cracked head. it's been in for about 2 months and i've been driving it on and off as a dd. besides for acouple leaks, I havnt had any problems.

early today when starting my jeep i heard a loud "clank" or knock. it sounded loud and hard but didn't repete. after being parked for about 15 minutes I got 'heat soaked" and was misfiring and at the same time that super loud knock in the engine. I eccelerated slightly and the knock when away, but when i went back into idle the knock came back still misfiring so i cut it off. waited alittle bit and opened up the hood, started it up without any misfire or knock. I reved it up and heard nothing. did it again but quiker, and heard the same one sharp loud knock from the engine. reved the rpm's way up(i was still under hood so idk where) but I think around 4-5k... and I heard a faint banging/knocking in the engine around the same place.

I did alot of research on knocking when I had to replace my engine this summer. but I don't remember comming across a knock that would hit once when hitting the gas.

I'm thinking rod knock... but I want to make sure before I decide anything. I really don't want to take the engine out again, I really dont want to sell it now, cause It'd be worth a good amount if fixed since it's an 01 with somewhat low miles.... so I'm just trying to figure out what's best.

I want to raise the idle to run my 9000 lb. winch. Can you read or are you stupid?

Where do taxpayer funds figure in here? I am a private citizen and I bought this jeep with my own money. Your reading comprehension is deplorable and something you should be ashamed of.

He is talking about police xjs but he didn't think about police officers jumping off people's cars for them or winching people out of ditches in the snow or runnin emergency lights at the scene of an accident I love *******es who hate on cops.

Sorry salad, if I had seen that was your post I wouldn't have been such an ******* about it.

I didn't think that a propane torch nor a Map torch could heat the metal hot enough to bend it easily. I have a map torch would that be hot enough?

I need to make a J-bolt for my fuel tank straps. I'd get some threaded rod if this crazy idea will work haha.

I used universal battery hold down hooks. They look similar to the j hooks just skinnier. I used loctite on the nut. The hold down kit cost less than $5 at walmart. It worked perfect and hasnt budged in over a year of abuse.

Your wanting to make this correct?

Ive melted a handful of change to liquid metal with a small propane torch. Id say it would do just fine heating up a little all-thread. Just put it in a vice, heat up the spot you want to bend, and pull it over. But take your time heating it up, it took a few minutes to heat that change to that point... except for the pennies. zinc melts pretty quickly. Or maybe it was the nickels.. Not sure, was pretty impaired at the moment.

The torch wont be the best option, but its better than nothing. You can always just go to a muffler shop and see if they could do it real quick for you? Try a local place.
