Well yours is an 89 right? the only major downfall to yours is the vacuum 4wd engagement...

Which he can do a posi lock and get rid of that or do a solid axle conversion kit. Many options to do away with the vac fork issues

I know quadratec and some others sell that kit... you can basically pull the vacuum motor out, seal up the axle portion, and swap in a solid passenger side axle shaft... Beneficial really only if you have problems with getting yours to stay in 4wd or doesnt really want to engage

Depends on the tires you decide to run

Yeah. I think a decent rule of thumb is that you don't replace the D30 up front unless you're replacing the rear... (D35 excepted of course). A D30 built should be good to 35s locked and maybe 37s if you go easy. If you're going to replace the front axle you're probably doing something like D44/D60.

I say 33's if you wheel it hard. No bigger unless it mall crawls.

Question Radiator Upgrade

I recently discovered that you can replace a closed radiator system (87-91) with a 1992-2001 Cherokee radiator system (open system) while enduring minimal modification. I put a 1996 system on my 89 Cherokee pioneer. The radiator is the perfect size i only had to find a way to put the new vertical overflow box in the place of the former horizontal one. And there are also a few slits in which the clutch fan cover sits, that will not fit with the new radiator so instead of using the fan cover from the new radiator I just cut off the bottom of the old cover.

The only strange part is that there is a little orifice in which a valve with some wires attached just above the lower radiator hose, on the driver's side, on the closed system. i just disconnected the terminals and didn't bother putting it on the new one (since there wasn't a spot for it). Any idea what it is for? I was guessing it was a heat sensitive switch to activate the fan but I'm not sure...any ideas?

Im pretty sure it is the controler sensor for the e fan. Because i believe the coolant temp sensor is on the block under the exhaust manifold.

Okay here goes. I just bought an 87 Jeep Cherokee from a guy who had it sitting in his back yard/field for the last 9 months. I cleaned out the mice and the bad gas, got it started and it runs pretty good. My problem is, the heat doesn't work. At all....I try the switch in all positions, theres nothing. Where do I start in trying to get my heat working?

Do a cooling system flush. It's probably a clogged heater core.
