Default Vacuum Reservoir Problem

Had an accident a long time ago with my xj. Destroyed the vacuum reservoir behind the bumper. I finally got another one, but it's been several since the first was destroyed and it is long gone.

I've been looking for a diagram of how to hook it back up, but all the pictures and figures seem to show a ball with a single inlet, while mine has 2 inlets on each end. Anyone have and ideas?

Thanks,
Dutch

Here are the diagrams that I am working off of now.

Note that this and the first pic show a single line into the reservoir.

This one is pretty damn confusing.

Here is one a fellow Jeeper relocated behind the front crossmember, you see that there is only an inlet on the one end.

And finally one that from this picture looks alot like mine (on the exposed end at least) with two inlets going in.

And this is the JY special again for comparison.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dutch

What are those vacuum lines made from?
some sort of plastic?
w/o going to the dealer, where would be the best place to get them (locally)? autozone or lowes or plumbing stores?

The smaller ones are hard plastic with soft rubber elbows, the larger ones are just rubber vacuum tubing.

Might stop by the dealership tomorrow to see they happen to have something more in their tech binders.

Ok....finally fixed it. Went by the wrecking yard. Found that I had picked a reservoir from an 89. While I was there today I found an complete one from a 91 and since I still had the other one in my rig, they allowed me to swap it.

So I looked real close before I pulled it, the vac tubes come around the back of the firewall and then T off right as they pass the cruise control motor. The line continues to the vac ball.

So I just moved the reservoir up to where I the ABS vacuum accumulator. Simple and easy.....hopefully now it will have enough vacuum to keep the cruise control from loosing speed.

Anyway, thanks for the replies.

I'm stuck looking for one too, there was one in perfect shape at my local yard but it was full of water and coolant, could I just drain it (which will most likely take forever) or keep searching for another one? It has 4 lines attatched to it I believe.

I'm making one from a soup can and mounting it on the frame rail near the starter....when I get around to it.

I think you can blow into the larger tube trough the check valve, and tip it so the water comes out where the small line goes. You will want to do both the heater control, and Cruse control ends.

I wouldn't put much work into fabbing one that will rust fast...I short piece of 4" ABS with caps and a check valve could work, but I bet it would be cheaper to find one at a JY or on-line. (E-bay....Or find some neat looking chromed or stainless tank. Or a 750mll wine or champagne bottle....

Big center fittings to vacuum source. Offset small fittings to vac line at firewall.

You can even use just one half of the canister.
