Depends on what was wrong before. If you didn't have carbon buildup you'll probably notice no difference.

Good point. But, today's fuels leave much to be desired and seem to have a habit of leaving residue behind in the form of carbon, especially on the back of intake valves.

Ah, and that is a good point too.
I did this with a Northstar last summer that had a cold-start knock, fixed it right up. Only drive them to the golf course and back and they build up some pretty good deposits.

I talked to a Mechanic buddy of mine last night and he said he does his fleet of cars twice a year. This includes the head 2 year old head he gave me off his 360K 4.0. It's clean other than the 3 cylinders that the rings went to **** on. I'm gonna give my 89' a drink in the morning and see what it does.

I have a slight knock which is either piston slap or valves and when I did my injectors my holes where only open about 1/8". I had to use a pick and the shop vac to clean those out so I know there's a ton of carbon build up.

I'll report back after I do it.

My wife's 88 has no more piston slap noise since doing that procedure.

Many years ago, my sister worked for a guy that had invented, and sold

water vapor injection systems to add to your car, to make your engine

run better, and get better fuel economy.

I guess the guy was on the right track....

Well with a 32 oz. water bottle filled with ice cold water I headed into the garage this morning. I started the old black ***** up and let it good good and hot. I then shut it down and removed the Spectre intake off of the TB and spun the rubber neck 180. Fired the XJ back up and blocked the Throttle for some higher RPMS. I then pumped 32 oz's of water into it non stop. I never hit the point of it almost dying like others have said but I did run more water than the stated 24 ounces through it. My guess is it was still working because the exhaust was like a really hot steam cleaner. Hot enough that putting my hand down there wasn't a real good idea while it was running. LOL Anyways I cleaned the rubber neck back up and put it back together and took it out for a hot run in the neighborhood. I ran up our huge long hill towards town hitting 85 MPH and then turned around. I stopped and smashed the pedal down only to have the right rear tire light right up leaving a nice 10 foot rubber mark. Hmm this feels better already. Shot by some lady getting her mail at about 65 MPH, ( main road is 30 MPH) she wasn't happy with me at all. LOL but hey I was only following Cruisers directions and driving it like I stole it! Got back to my Street and did one more launch again leaving another rubber mark! Damn this is feeling nice! Pulled into the garage and listened for that little "Knock", Hmm not hearing it. So for now I have the door shut and it's cooling down in the garage just in case the sheriff got called on me. LOL I'm gonna run to town and do some shopping with the wife while it rests and I'll start it back up when I get home and see how it sounds then when cold again. So far the results are good. XJ's look funny as hell smoking the tires from a dead stop!!

Can expect 25 extra horsepower from this steam cleaning? The flame stickers I bought didn't add near as much as the guy I bought them from promised...

LOL jk. I am curious about this though. My '91 has 208k miles, and all I have ever ran through it was BG44K at one point. I reckon I can give this a go. One fear though... if you are burning a little oil, can't the water get past the rings and into the oil?

On a side note, I am still waiting for the newbie to show up here saying he did it and hydrolocked... except he got like a mop bucket and dumped the s*** in all at once. Mr. Clean Mr. Clean!

I know. The newb has crossed my mind also. Today I got more agressive with my water application with no issues.

I've always been a big BG 44K believer but this is more fun and free.

Don't worry about water in the oil. It turns to steam real quick.

Aggressive water... seems like a spin-off from that bottled SmartWater...

I'll do this if I can get these #$%#^$ drums taken care of first.
