Since my wife has laid claim to the XJ, she went shopping yesterday & bought 6 quarts of the Rotella T6 stuff and a new filter. Today is oil change day, and maybe I'll be changing the trans oil ( again) to rinse it out some more...
I've been driving her Buick Park Avenue Ultra occasionally..(wretched excess). The supercharger makes it fun to drive though...

Question- I've heard rumor fly that rotella is dropping some ingredients out that us flat tappet jeepers enjoy...is their formula changing? And if so, how? I'm not an oil expert by any means but I'm starting to grasp the concepts and reasoning for the formulas and additives, so I'm interested in why they may be changing it

I answered my own question...I heard it word of mouth from several people. None were really what I'd call reliable, so I figured I'd ask my jeep community, whose word I trust more.
But in searching the subject, I found several sites including bitog, where some peeps asked the same question, and the rumor was shot down, so all good I suppose

Rumors can't really be trusted, but with the ever-evolving world you can't be sure without actually testing. That said it's still primarily a diesel oil so I'm extremely skeptical that there would be sweeping changes like suggested without a brand new standard.
For example the 0w40 I poured into my truck last week is now rated CJ-4/SN, whereas the 5w40 was at least previously CJ-4/SM. I'm curious what's really different between them, if the add pack is even different at all: It could just be tested against lastest standard since 0w40 was introduced in 2012 and T6 is older.
I imagine whatever succeeds CJ-4 is going to have lower phosphorous limits to ensure particulate filters and catalysts last longer as well as better resistance against polymerization when used with biodiesel blends.

No idea, spec sheet doesn't list it. After the API, Mack, Volvo, and Cat standards it just says to contact Shell for a full list of approvals and recommendations.
