Default RMS Leak Worse After Replacement

Just replaced the RMS and oil pan gasket on my ‘98. On first start up I didn’t see any leaks but after driving it it’s leaking worse. Guess I’ll go tackle it again. I followed all forum posts and videos. Where could I have gone wrong? Warped oil pan? Can you install the RMS backwards? Is there some special way I need to install the oil pan? I have to take it to go snowboarding tomorrow so I’ll just keep and eye on the oil level during the 4 hour trip then tackle it after but wanna make sure I don’t have to do it a 3rd time

The half in the cap only goes in one way but you may have inserted the other backwards, Did you put any sealant on the designated area of the cap?

What oil pan gasket did you use? Felpro make a 1 piece gasket.

The hard part of a RMS replacement is the half that goes around the upper part of crank, not the part in the bearing cap. And as stated prior...you need to put the silicon where required by the manual. Did you use the newer blue felpro oil pan seal, with the seal and pan holders...makes the job easy...PS, Ive built 4 or 5 motors...never had a RMS that didnt leave a small stain within a month of replacement....if it don't leak...your out of oil.

...... Or if you dinged up the crank when removing the top half of the seal you can get accustomed to it leaking.

Have never understood the obsession with replacing RMS. My "RMS leak" mostly went away when I replaced the seeping oil pressure sensor, funny how that works. I consider the residual slight leak rustproofing.

I used to use a piece of cardboard strategically placed on the ground. I have since changed to a 2' x 2' square of OSB which doesn't get destroyed when it gets wet, doesn't blow away, etc.

I’m thinking my main problem is installing it backwards at this point. About to tackle it again next week and I’ll know for sure. Just want to confirm does RTV or anerobic sealer go on the edge of the bearing cap? Or nothing at all on there? Te guide I followed said to put Rtv on the ends of the seal, looks like that was wrong.

I know this gets said a lot but look in the shop manual. (Note that the seal changed with about 2000 my.)
