I have a 2001 jeep xj, and I got the noise problem a but after I high centered on some snow, I have skid plates on my jeep so I wouldn't think I damaged Anything, Then when I got an alignment they said I had to "replace my whole front end" and that they couldn't get me aligned,

I have now replaced: Inner and outer tie rods, track bar, drag link, upper sway bar bushings, And I have tightened every bolt under there.

Still have the popping noise, And it seems to be getting worse, have all new ball joints I'm going to attach, And I'm currently on a 3-in rough country lift kit, and running stock size tires, When I get the pop it's sometimes feels like it's coming from the wheel, And sometimes I can feel it in the frame, My axle U-joints are good. I have a feeling it could be my steering box, I looked underneath and didn't find any stressed metal or cracks on my frame.

 

Make sure you tighten up your track bar BRACKET to frame bolts
