Getting ready to replace my motor mounts on a ‘01 XJ and I’ve heard the mount bracket bolts (bracket to engine) are known to fail (shearing off) due to the factory bolts being slightly too long for the bolt boss. Was this an issue on all XJ’s or just certain years? I’d rather not risk snapping a bolt when replacing them if it’s not necessary. My current plan is to get new bolts from teamcherokee.com and slip a washer or two under them to allow the bolt to stretch and torque properly. Thoughts?

If i remember plain old grade 8 3/8 coarse about 1 1/4 long see if they bottom with no washer, or bottom with a tiny gap, then add a washer or two for perfect fit. Haven't broken a mount bolt in 30 years. Also get a couple of 1 inch and 1 1/2 ...test all 3 to find most block grip with 1 washer... but 1 1/4 rings a bell..test with motor mount bracket installed
