Exclamation Engine mount bracket bolts...

So, I have a 95 Cherokee SE with the 4.0. I have always done my own maintenance and upkeep and have become adept at wrench turning.

I have run into a problem that I have not had to deal with before though.
I have known there to be an issue with the motor mounts on my jeep for longer than i'd like to admit, but money is super tight and so I cant just take her down to the shop to have work done.

While further investigating the issue, I found that my passenger side engine mount bracket has sheered the bolts off and they are now in the block, not sticking out at all.
Is there an "easy" way to remove the old bolts so I can replace the mounts and bolts? or should I just bite the bullet on it and take it in to a shop?

I have looked into some different methods for doing this, but have no experience with any of them.
I would prefer to do the job myself as it will probably cost less, but I also don't want it to take forever to get done since she's my daily driver.

Thanks for reading!

I apologize if this is an already going thread, but I could not locate it with the forum search.

Angle drill and easy outs. Add a washer to new bolts from factory the bottom out b4 tightening down causing breakage.

I always get mixed results when drilling out broken bolts because I am bad at it. If you don't know what you are doing, you could spend a small fortune on special drill bits and really screw up the drill hole. You are taking your chances - some people get them out with issues and some don't.

Your options are 1) finding a good mechanic/machine shop that can do it fast and right or;

2) Try it yourself, and use a Brown Dog engine mount bracket if you can't get them out. The brackets allows you to use the extra bolt holes in the engine block that are unused. Expensive, but it works.

Also had mixed results using the traditional easy out method.

Had better luck with reverse rotation drill bits, some call them left handed drill bits.
The bits rotate counter clockwise which if lucky the pressure of cutting could loosen the bolt if its not seized too bad.
If the bolt doesn't loosen with those drill bits there's still the drilled hole for a conventional easy out.

Center punch the sheared off bolt accurately in the center of the bolt, then drill a smaller pilot hole first then follow up with a larger hole for an easy out if necessary.
Use quality drill bits like carbide, take your time and be extra careful the bit doesn't break off in the bolt.

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice on this issue.
After further inspection, I have found that the bolts did not sheer off as much as just break. neither has a clean break either, so I doubt anyone can remove the bolts very easily. Centering on what's left of the bolts in the block would be, dare I say, impossible.

It's unfortunate, but I think I'm going to have to bench the jeep for the time being and try and get those BrownDog mounts.

My only other thought/idea would be to weld the bracket to the block, but that seems pretty sketchy... anyone heard of it being done???

again, thank you all for the info and assistance.

I will update you all as the situation develops.

I wouldn't do that.

However, if you can weld, you may be able to weld a nut to the broken bolt to give it a head to put a wrench on.

Even if you end up using the Brown Dog brackets, I would still get those bolts out and use all the holes for mounting the BD brackets.

Ive done them twice small center punch and small sharp bits . Motor needs to be raised and lowered to access holes from different angles. Jobs like this tell mechanics from part swappers. Its time consuming and a pain but only other way pull motor. Good luck.
