Help oil guage acting up....
So i was sort of stuck in traffic yesterday and i went to lightly give my jeep gas because the car in front of me moved only a couple ft up, when i felt like my jeep was sluggish or bogging out. as i moved up in traffic it continued to do it, i looked at my guages and they were all the same as they should but my oil guage it was lower than normal. i dont know what it could be i changed my oil about a thosand miles ago and this was the 1st time it happened to me. when the traffic cleared up and i started driving the needle went up to where it normally is but as soon as i let off the throttle it started to fall again, i have 192,000 miles but i know these engines are good for many more, can any one help me out.

When I first got my 91 XJ the oil preasure was really high, according to the stock gauge at least. The sending unit looked brand new but I didn't belive the gauge, so I installed a mechanical gauge in it's place (that I know is accurate) and yeap, the PO had installed the wrong sending unit in the Jeep. I replaced it with the correct one and now it reads the same as the mechanical (test) gauge did.

it sounds like a worn rod, or main bearing. When the bearing clearance increases with wear the oil will flow in the journals with less restriction, so at idle when normal pressure is low to begin with the pressure will drop very low. when the rpm increases the pressure builds and the pressure will build

I had that problem over the summer, was driving around town and all of a sudden i looked at my gauges and my oil pressure was at like 60 and when i stepped on the gas would shoot passed 80, and so then put a new oil pressure switch or w/e its called and fixed that problem.

You need verification of your oil pressure before making any assumptions.
First step would be to either swap out the oil pressure sending unit with a new one ( I buy these directly from Jeep for best reliability/accuracy/mating with your gauge) or you could buy or rent a MECHANICAL oil pressure gauge (rent from parts store) and temporarily install it where the oil pressure sending unit resides.
Compare your readings with the mechanical gauge to what you are seeing on your dash.
Then you'll know for SURE.

Careful using the factory. They are made to react slowly so the arent bouncing around much so the average joe doesnt freak out. Your oil pressure is actually moving up and down relative to the RPM. I have a electric gauge on my stang and the thing is run right RPM.
