Default Do XJs have Sentry Key Immobilizer

My cherokee just has the regular black handle key, no chip, as most do. I've only found a small amount of information on this. This system is just like the grand cherokee system with the fat gray handle key, with chip inside. I saw this write up http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/skim-sentry-key-immobilizer-module-install-708379/ and in the thread on pictures 10 and 11 going down, I noticed my 2000xj sport has that same small black connector, and key symbol on the instrument cluster. I called the dealership, gave the vin, and they said it wasn't an option for mine? Then why would it have those? Also he mention when adding a sentry key module, you have to change the PCM to match it. Does anyone have this on their XJ?

It was an option in 2000 but apparently, by your VIN, you don't have it.

Not sure when SKIS was introduced ('98 maybe) but the instrument clusters will have the Immobilizer light even if you don't have SKIS.

I think that was only a 2000-2001 option. Why the hell would you want it? It's a garbage system.

Eh, everything messes up occasionally. I was just curious to if I had it or not, and if I could add it if I ever wanted to. If it would work, and I could find the module and PCM on a donor XJ from the junkyard, I might consider it. Small added security.

That system sucks, I had it on my 2000 Dodge Stratus and all it does is make replacement keys expensive in my opinion. I'm glad my 2000 XJ doesn't have it.

Wait until it fails and leaves you stranded somewhere holding the keys in your hand.

For security try a 12 gauge + a large dog.

So I have had this pos for years now and My cruise control is not working. So I decided to take apart my steering column

I swapped this out
and see if I can Fix it. So I swapped some thing out and now it won’t start and I found the stupid little black box by my key. I’m guessing that’s the immobilizer so I put everything back the way it was still won’t start. Wtf thanks

Imobilizer works as advertised. Especially at the worst time possible.

Pulling the rotor out of distributor and pocketing it is preferable IMHO.
