Default Intermediate Hesitation w/ Code 76??

For a few weeks now my jeep has had intermediate hesitation. And sometimes while idleing at a light, it will flat out died, but then starts right up. Somtimes while just cruising it will loose all power like a back fire and then drive fine.
So I did the key on key off check engine light diagnostic, which came back with code 76.
Fuel pump bypass relay circuit.
The relay seems fine and since I drive a 95 Cherokee sport there is no ballast resistor, which was equipped in older models.
I'm at a stump at what the problem is and have read alot on the web with no answer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you look at the fuel pump relay, or actually try swapping it?

Yes relay seems fine, also swapped it around with aux fan relay, both seem to work fine.

Also check all wires and fuel lines front to back, with nothing bad noticeable.
I have pretty much exhausted all resources trying to figure out the issue.
Im now considering throwing a fuel pump at it. But also see no justice in doing that when the jeep seems to run fine other then the intermediate hesitation.

Yeah, that's an odd code for a '95, which has neither a fuel pump resistor nor relay to bypass it.
Do you have access to a fuel pressure tester? Might be interesting to see if the pressure drops out of spec when the hesitation occurs.

A fuel pressure test was next on the check this to do list. But after driving last night in a bit of wet rain muggy weather, I could tell the truck was sputtering and died again at a stop light.
So again it would seem to be a fuel pump issue.

Like to bump this post as the jeep is still doing the hesitation trick and has died at stop lights few times. Also seems that on a fresh start of the day the truck is getting a bit longer to start.
Any suggestions?

Fuel pressure test is the next logical step.
I'd bet on it being a failing fuel pump, but I'm not going to spend your money without testing it first.

At least the tank doesn't have to come out. That makes it a whole lot easier.

So I did a fuel pressure test, and it showed some in accurate correct readings, so since I had a new fuel punp handy, it was installed.
But know and be hold the jeep still had problems.
Totally at a lost of what the problems is..
Let me edit this, what should be the correct fuel pressure reading? 30psi, 40psi?? After replacing the fuel pump I believe I was getting 30psi.

it sounds like you have a loose wire in the fuel pump circuit. It may not be getting a full 12 volts at times and that would give your hesitation, stalling and hard starts especially when there is moister in the air. Check the connector for corrosion and also check the ground for the pump. I would also trace the wires back to the front of the jeep and see if the wire may be exposed but not grounding out on the body.

I already did check the wires all the way front to back and they seem fine. Since we do wheel/offroad mud puddles etc. The ground wire does seems a bit corroded. ( if the ground wire would be the only black wire connected to the base plate of the fuel pump plate.) But with the wire being soldered on, I dnt see why it would cause an issue.
Also when trying to put the new pump back it seemed as it was getting hung up on something and wld not go dwn all the way, even tho it came out flush. Without dropping the tank I put my hand in there and felt around only to find the stationary lip.
Starting to think faulty fuel preussure regulater or faulty injectors.
