Default Check engine only comes on when hitting bumps or turning

Note that i just replaced the cps, double checked that the bolts were tight

when i hit bumps or turn hard the check engine light flashes and then goes off right after

this is for a 96 xj

Do a wiring wiggle test. It's exactly how it sounds.

Every wire you can get at.
pound on the dash and the steering column
Clean every connector you can get at
Do the grounds and the battery cables

....this isn't rocket science.

Are there any pending codes?

Like others said, start the wiggles. Make sure you check the O2 sensor harness as well.

Yours is a 1996, which is OBDII. You should have a stored code or codes, even if the check engine light isn't currently on.....it doesn't have to be as the CEL should have stored a code. Use the technology provided to you by your XJ.

Use a scan tool or a code reader to read any codes stored in the PCM and post the EXACT code or codes here for comment, not just a description. With OBD, the devil is in the details!

Once you have a code or codes and can pin those codes to a specific circuit, that will help you to narrow down the search for the root cause to wiring or hardware associated with that particular circuit.

Good luck and keep us updated!

So it was a low coolant light and not a check engine light?
