Default Busted window blues...

I picked up a deal on a small portable air compressor today...$20 with a 1.5 hp 220v motor on it, good tank, stuck pump.

On the way home, it tipped over and broke the right rear window.

Anybody got know-how on how to replace the window?

Is this a jy item or can they be had at the auto glass shop?

Some deal on the compressor, eh?

Bump. I need some input on how to install a window - specifically, one of the rear side windows. Easy to get the broken one out...wondering how bad it is to install new one.

Also...if I have to pull one from the JY, how hard are they to remove???

not hard at all. ive prob done 5 of them. just gently pull the black molding out a little at a time, start at a lower corner. when putting in, just start at the bottom & push molding in a little at a time not putting too much force on it. hope this helps ya.

I saw that - not useful. But keep searching...maybe you can find one I missed that is on-point.

If you put string inside the groove of the gasket and have someone pushing on the outside in, you just pull the string through to the inside and it pulls the gasket lip right in place. Did this with my sunroof once.

This makes sense. I get the window tomorrow...I'll let you know how it works. The window rubber is as pricey as the window from the JY because they usually just cut them out.

X2 also use some liquid soap in a spray bottle to lube the rubber seal and help it seal

You're right, my comment was a bit sarcastic and uncalled for. I apologize.

But just so the OP knows, maybe take time to read the whole thread I linked for you- it is spot on and very revelant to your needs. I was just trying to help since it looked like no one else was going through the trouble of looking 12 pages deep to find that or repeat it again.

It's very easy. Pick up a new one from the JY. Remove the door panel (you will probably need to buy new clips). Roll what's left of the window down. Remove the rear fixed window and separation molding. Take out the old pieces of window that remain. Put the new window in place and hook to the crank arm. Roll down. Reinstall small window and separation molding. Roll Up. Done!

I don't think the OP was working on a roll up window. I think it was for one of the fixed rear most side window.

Yep, several people have already even given links and short write-ups.

Good tips in this thread if you read it.
