I know this may have been asked before but I'm in a pinch and don't have the time to search. Anyway the other day my battery died and I had to jump my cherokee, once I had it running and I starting driving it may a strange squealing noise. Then today the battery was dead again, when I went to jump it the truck would t stay running , the second I took my foot off the gas it died. I don't think it's the batter. Could the alternator be bad. What do you guys think? Any help would be helpful as the trick is sitting in a public parking lot and I really don't want it to be towed

Probably not even this, GM's use side terminals, Jeeps use tops. Unless he happens to have a 34/78 battery he's out of luck.

Could def be the alternator. Belts loose, making the noise, not running the alternator....not charging battery....

The #1 symptom of a failing battery is stalling. Have the battery LOAD TESTED. It is free at any parts store.

In the event the battery is fine, it is entirely plausible that the charging system isn't working properly. Which is easily verified with a meter connected to the battery.

A properly operating charging system will read between 13.5 and 14.0 volts at the battery. So very easy to verify.

It's likely one of those two. Battery or charging system.
