Default 96 Cherokee won't start

My 96 Cherokee won't start. It acted like a plugged fuel filter so I replaced it. it starts and runs as long as I keep my foot on the pedal but dies when I lift. Any ideas?

you know I've been suspecting the battery too. I'll take a volt meter tomorrow and check it. Does anyone know what it should be? Like not lower than 11 or something isn't it?

Idle air control valve too. it just started doing it one day after driving about 1/4 mile from the house but I was only going 10 or so. I'll volt test it then jump it to my GMC for about 20-30 seconds and see if it stays running. If that doesn't work i'll take the idle air control valve off and check it. thanks yall.

A good fully charged battery should show 12+ volts (engine off) and 14+ volts with engine running. Sorry, i don't know exact specs. I'd suspect a dirty or sticking pintle in the IAC valve.

Voltage testing of the battery is inconclusive. LOAD TESTING is the only way to determine battery condition.

A marginal battery is probably the #1 root cause of stalling of the 4.0

I answer 2-3 threads a week on this specific issue.

Glad you got it resolved!
