Default 4.0 head question

Put a motor out of a parts xj in my 98 swapped Comanche and got to looking over the head to see if it had been changed. It has no 0331 or 0631 casting but instead where that would be it’s stamped “DD” anyone know what head this is? Also the head bolts and rockers are Allen key bolts not normal ones. Just wondering. Went to take a picture and my phone died can update tomorrow! Thanks in advanced.

If it has a distributor it's not a 331 head.

I know this but this parts motor is out of a 2000 but I switched it to distributor.

Google is suggesting that it's an aftermarket version of the TUPY 0331 head, sold under the Spartan brand by Advanced Auto Parts...

I searched and searched and only found one other post of someone having the same head but no definitive answer.

Post a pic of the casting. Are their any marks under the valve cover viewed through the fill hole?

I had the valve cover off and there’s nothing stamped inside. I can’t get a picture til Thursday when I go back to where my jeep is.

Check the preload on the Lifters.

okay I watched it run with the valve cover off everything is getting oil and they are moving like normal as far as I can see but it’s loud like valves chattering that need adjusted on a 4 wheeler or motor cycle

Unfortunately they're not adjustable so you have to vary the pushrod length to get the proper amount of preload on the lifters. Using an adjustable pushrod is my preferred method of measuring preload, but here's the OEM procedure

Aside from varying pushrod length, which I think is how the factory did it, you can pick up some shim washers for under the rocker from I think Crane.
