Well I got the head off my jeep, pulled all the valves out and there is a hairline crack between the intake and exhaust valves on the number 5 cylinder.

Just wondering where I could get a new/remanufactured head, either assembled or bare.

JUNKYARD!!!! (my favorite hang out)

Call me white trash, but I brag to my friends how I got a 75$ junkyard engine in my daily driver! When you're dirt poor, you figure out how to save money!

Where do you live? I can get a head (any head) for 42.00+ a core 10$ core charge. Half off weekends means a little over 30 bucks for a rebuildable head.

If you want to save the bucks at the yard, you've got to find these "corporate" yards where you have to pay a buck or two to get in- and you have to pull all parts yourself. It's the only way to do it IMHO

of course a junk yard....but the junkyard i like going to usually wont get 97's in..and if they do they are stripped fast...you pull the parts yourself so its a hell of alot cheaper.

Ebay or Craigslist, then...or come down here and I'll let you have my old head off my 93. 50/50 shot if it's cracked or not, but you can't beat the price.

I just had this problem too, I just opted for a low mileage motor swap. I also had 2 bad pistons so that didnt help. If you do get a "used" head I would have a machine shop check it out for cracks, warp etc. I would also toss some new valve seals in and a valve grind. You can never be too sure of the condition of a junk yard part. Better then finding out after you've put it on.
