stupid thing finally went to the red again today after a long day driving in the Mojave desert, mainly long up grades with air on, turn heater on and it drops right back to 215ish. no air stays around 210. Guess I gotta do the radiator on the next pay check, looks sucky to change lol.

Water wetter may work in Maine but not on an XJ with a low flowing radiator in the Mojave desert.

I have a 2000 and mine was doing the same thing just not getting as hot, it would push 212-215 but I'm OCD enough I wanted to get it to run at 210 as much as possible after reading about the head on em.

It would start to warm up climbing up a long grade or sitting at a light or in traffic. It's 90-100 past couple weeks here.

Anyway, I flushed it all out with NAPA's radiator flush and lots and lots of water. Filled it back up with good ole green coolant, replaced the thermostat and cap and added some Royal Purple Ice to the coolant.

Not sure what helped the most, one thing or all three but she runs at 210 or just below now.

ALSO, if you don't have a OEM (Mopar) thermostat you may want to look into getting one. The NAPA 195 and the OEM one had a few differences is design so I went with the OE. Its about $20 and around $5-$6 for the felpro gasket.

The factory stat makes a big difference. Mine came with gaskets in the box BTW.

Well that ticks me off, how much was yours? I thought $5 was a lot for a gasket anyway considering the Napa equivalent was .86 cents or something.

The felpro was a MUCH better decision though.
