I don't understand what is going on. Sometimes my check engine light comes on other times it stays off and drives normally. Well my check engine light was on and I was driving home from an airport going 85 mph in the rearview mirror I saw a lot of white smoke. 3000-3500 rpm. I can go 85 mph and it not do that if the light is off. I think it is not going into a higher gear. Have any ideas?
White smoke could be coolant since it is a 2000, and the 0331 cylinder head is known for cracking. You will lose coolant thru the exhaust and/or mix with the oil. Keep driving it like that and the coolant will wipe out the bearings. Check the oil and coolant.
You say the CEL comes on, so check for codes. The CEL could be for anything.
I changed the cylinder head with a remanufactured one, but I do know the previous person didn't take care of it that well. There was sludge and it was overheating. I fixed everything other than the engine or transmission itself. And they didn't take care of the transmission that well either. Could the white smoke be due to bad rings with the pistons?
Here is a better understanding of what's going on.
Both of these pictures are the same day different times. Also when I scan for a code I get nothing. On my way to my brothers On my way from my brothers
Most of that is moot....2500 rpm and 20 psi oil pressure does not bode well for the integrity of your engine...and 85 mph in a jeep is never a smart thing to do...also 3000+ at 80 means you have downshifted and are no longer in OD. The daylight picture shows more accurate rpm's for the speed
