I have a new 2021 Cherokee Limited 4x4 with the V6 and factory tow package (tows 4500 lbs). I intend to add the anti sway and trailer brake system. I know its a small vehicle for towing a camper/trailer, but it didnt make sense for us to get a huge vehicle when we only plan to camp periodically.
But what SPECIFIC make and model travel trailers are successfully being towed long distances? Would like to go cross country (yes, we know it would be a very small camper & cramped)...
thanks!

Pop-up camper. A hard-sided pop-up, similar to an Aliner, can vary in weight from 1,180 to 2,700 lbs. But tent style pop-ups range from 1,300 to 3,700 lbs. Or here are some lighter travel trailers... but you have to account for water, gear, personal belongings, etc...
- 3,715 pounds without gear and water – 2015 Jayco Jayflight 19RD (19 feet box length)
- 3,786 pounds without gear and water – 2017 R-Pod RP-176 (17 feet long)
- 3,974 pounds without gear and water – 2017 Coleman CTS192RDWE (23 feet box length)
- 4,800 pounds without gear and water – 2017 Rockwood Mini-Light 2504s (25 foot long box length, 29 foot total length)

You might want to ask on the forum for the newer Cherokees, btw.

First, thanks so much for the reply. I am SHOCKED there is no set forum established to talk about towing/RVing for each Jeep model. I have spent HOURS online searing Jeep and RV sites looking to speak with SOMEONE about what they are actually towing with their Jeep Cherokee (not Gran) with the 4500 lb capacity. I know that I dont want to exceed 3800 lb total towing (trailer, fluids, battery, food, etc). I figure Im safe if i stay at 3800 lbs. If you have any ideas where to look, my wife and i would greatly appreciate it.

Im confused with this forum. Did I post this in the wrong place? Is this forum for older Jeeps??? I cant believe how difficult it is to get feedback on what people are actually towing with their Jeep Cherokees (newer models).
We DONT want a little teardrop and from what this newby reads, we should look for something with a dry weight of under 3300 lbs and GVWR of 4200. So we COULD put in about 900 lbs of gear including water, battery, personal crap.
Just trying to help to learn before buying. But definately want to speak with someone with someone who is actually towing a trailer as described.
APpreciate any ideas.
Thanks much.

You originally posted in a forum for older Cherokees, not the KL. Your profile shows you own an XJ. Moderators moved the thread to the correct forum. But this forum doesn’t get much traffic, I suggest you try a more active forum like this one:
