Rust will come off the rotors as the brakes are used. Also, rust will only cause squeaky brakes, not grinding brakes. I'd request to look at the pads and rotors next time you have the wheel off. Brakes with 1200 miles should still look brand new. You should have atleast 3/8" of pad on the inside and outside. If it's worn down any further than that I'd suspect something is sticking in the system and applying the brakes all the time while you are driving. If that were the case you would smell it, and likely see some steam/smoke coming from the wheel area after a trip somewhere.

Take a look at the rotors and see if they're still silver. I know it sounds dumb but check it out. The face of the rotor should be smooth, but not mirror smooth. It should be completely flat. There should be no discoloration like blue spots, and there should be no cracks in the rotors. Get under the car and look at both inside and outside of the rotors. They may have just put brake pads on a rotor with a crack in it, and you are hearing the grinding noise every time the brakes hit that crack. Post back with your results and let us know. Good luck with the search.

It sounds like the OP is not a car guy, no point in him trying to diagnose his daughter’s brake problem. He needs to change dealers, his current one is clearly incompetent. Brakes are not rocket science, they’ve been stopping cars for over a century.....

There's another one for proof..... someone that does cross-fit that has to tell EVERYBODY they do cross-fit......

About the problem, if you have ANY idea what BRAKES and rotors are supposed to look like, then make the shop show them to you so you can see that they are actually bad, or still good.
If it's JUST the drivers side then there could be a bigger problem with the pressure only being applied to that side and the passengers side isn't getting any squeeze, so all the stopping power is on the left side hence wearing the pads down faster just on that side.
Does the jeep still feel like it stops the way it should? Or does it seem like it takes longer to stop and pulls to the left...???

First the important part............... I would just tell the service writer at the dealer you want to see everything taken apart. Wheel off, caliper off, brake pads out. Then you can look for spots that may be rubbing where they shouldn't be. Maybe the rotor or caliper is shifting during the braking process and the rotor is rubbing inside the caliper somewhere. Or something is worn out causing things to shift when braking and its hitting the inside of the rim. Grinding sounds should be easy to find since it more than likely is showing signs of it somewhere.

You're welcome for the wit. I entertain whenever possible.

No need to apologize for your user name. You just enjoy telling everyone you do crossfit, just like all the other people that do crossfit. I'm just stating the facts. If it hurts your feelings that non-crossfit people point out the fact that crossfit people enjoy telling everyone they do cross fit, maybe you could spread the word to the crossfit world to stop telling everyone they do crossfit, then the stereotype (more like fact) may go away. I suppose its just a widely known fact because it just seems so weird to non-crossfit people that real crossfit people HAVE to tell everyone that they do crossfit. A couple of people I work with are other prime examples with their daily crossfit stories... Be proud of who you are. You just don't have to advertise it.

I wasn't the first one to point out your grammar/spelling error. And I would think someone, especially an adult, would be a little more appreciative when they are shown the proper spelling of a word so they can begin spelling it correctly.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!

Nice work Rox, insulting the OP and driving him off the forum. What a tool.

Thanks!! I'm just calling 'em as I see 'em... And why would you throw out some sarcastic remarks about insulting someone, then turn right around and call me a tool....? Way to think that one through if you were trying to prove a point there tool boy....
It wasn't an insult BTW. I didn't call him names either.....Just 100% facts brought to the surface, and first, it was in a joking manner.
And if someone can't handle the truth, then maybe they shouldn't set themselves up for jokes or criticism.
He obviously doesn't have much use for the forum in the first place if those were his first posts and it was for his daughters vehicle. He has zero interest in the actual jeep community. He was just looking for answers. He may have found some if he didn't get his panties all twisted around.
Back to the XJ section......
