2017 Cherokee Sport rattle noise from the rear
Hey Guys,
I recently bought my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4cyl. I have 4000 miles now, and noticed last week a rattle that I had never heard coming from the rear. It mostly happens on a bumpy road or when there is a lot of wind which made me think it was coming from the exterior. It sounds like something plastic constantly banging on metal.. kind of like a loose wire. Yesterday I couldn't take it anymore since it's just getting worse as the days go by, and had my wife drive the car while I sat in the trunk area. I listened closely and as soon as she jumped on the highway it began. When I drive I could've sworn it was coming from the passenger side rear, but now since I was within inches away from it I noticed it's coming from the driver's side. I followed it all the way up and it ended up coming from inside of the plastic in between the trunk door and the driver's side rear. When we got home I went ahead and popped out the plastic border, and found regular wiring neatly taped and clamped onto the chassis. I couldn't find anything out of place. I can't figure this out, if anyone has had this problem and had it fixed please let me know. It's driving me crazy. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

No that was the first thing I checked. I think its the rear spoiler that's on top of the window. The left side makes a dingling noise when I tap it from the exterior that sounds the same exact way when I'm driving.

Hey, did you ever got the rattle resolved by your dealer? If so, can you tell me what it was?
I am trying to troubleshoot the same issue on my Trailhawk.
It has the same rattle on the rear passenger side. I disassembled all the cargo area panels on that side, including the subwoofer assembly, and could not get rid of it. Make sure that all the bolts were tighten, harnesses properly secured, etc.
I think that it is coming from the wheel arch on the outside, or from the seat belt assembly (which I couldn't remove because I don't have the torx bit).

Just a quick FYI on mine, it was the upper rear shock mount screws that weren't tightened to the specs. We tighten them up, and the rattle was gone.
Hope this helps, diagnosing a rattle is a b...

Are those screws something I can tighten on my own or do I need to go to the Jeep dealership? The Jeep dealership I purchased my Jeep from is less than helpful. I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and have been trying to pinpoint a similar rattling sound in the rear. I’ve removed everything from the back and the sound it still there.

You sure can!
Need to jack the Cherokee up so that you can take the offending wheel out. You will also need to take the black protection plastic, but that one is held with pressure clips. Once you do that, you will see the two bolts that hold the shock in place.

Hi - JP from SA TX. Me too on the rea passenger side rattle. Took it to dealer & the spend a few hour chasing Dow and fixing supposed heat shield pro lw..
BUT its back 🤔
Service Advisor has been foos ao far, but they dont seem to want to help diagnose beeps, squeeqs or rattles.
Asked if FCA has an area service w pert, but adviser told me their their tech access a computer network that has all that diagnostic info, but didnt see anything.
Seems like this is a common issue with cherokees
I have lifetime FCA bumper to bumper warranty.
See where some corporate folks have offered help here..
If appropriate..
HELP...
Regards
