Greetings, Fellow Cherokee Aficionadim ['See what I did there?]!
The Cherokee Forum just wished me a Happy Birthday; I turned 74 today! It made me wonder if there are any other dinosaurs like me out there, still going (and discovering, and exploring) places where only a Jeep can go, still lovin' gettin' my Cherokee all muddy, and still deeply in love with what is the best vehicle I've ever owned (and, at my age, I've owned quite a few). A couple of places I go have "Senior Citizen Parking" spaces, and when I park there I get a few funny looks, because I guess people think a muddy, lifted '99 XJ is not an appropriate vehicle for a Senior Citizen (and some go so far as to question if I'm old enough to park there). Pic taken a few years ago; the dog is now buried in my backyard, but the XJ is still adventuring with me and my current dog.
So, 'any other geezers out there who just don't know when to quit?
@Ringolevio . I'll turn 70 in a few months so I'm a bit behind you. I'm on my 3rd XJ having bought the first one new in 1990 and 2 used ones since then. Funny coincidence is that all 3 originally were sold by the same dealership in Toronto.
I've camped with my XJs for years. I've often slept in them and at 69 I just switched to an RTT. It's mounted at "half height" on an off road trailer I built so there's no, or less, worry of falling out of it on late night trips to water the flowers. It's been very comfortable and I've had no issues with changing clothes or anything else in it.
I usually establish a base camp and take my XJ, a 1989 Limited that looks more like a Laredo, off to hit some trails. I took the last pic just yesterday when I had to stop for a bit as the trail was blocked. Part of the blockage later became fire wood.
Hey Ringolevio , Happy 74 years on the planet . Great pictures , Long may you, your dog and XJ run ! I’m in the dinosaur club as well , knocking on 72 and enjoy my XJ’s as well.
I'm a young puppy of 66. Still doing some light wheeling in a mostly stock XJ. A friend put a 3" lift on his 96 Xj along with some 31's. I have to admit I have lift envy.
I guess we never grow up, what fun would that be?
