Default Teague's Masterpiece: "best SUV shape of all time"

I'm sure people have seen this before but I'm new to the forum and to XJs and I thought this was pretty cool and worth posting. I did a search and couldn't find this on the forum.... ok now I'm covered

the XJ... one of the 20 Greatest cars.... sweet, I'll take that!

http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...kee/index.html

pretty cool that the guy that designed them had worked on WWII aircraft and the Olds Rocket! the XJ was his final masterpiece.... just wikipedia but interesting reading

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_A._Teague

"designer Dick Teague's masterpiece, the Jeep Cherokee. Possibly the best SUV shape of all time, it is the paradigmatic model to which other designers have since aspired"

Well, IIRC Car & Driver (or was it Motor trend?) had an article a few years ago that listed the Jeep Cherokee XJ in the Top 20 Most Influential Vehicles of the 20th Century. Yeah, that's a lot of cars/trucks/ricers/vans/SUV to beat out. I'm proud to own one.

And no ... the TJ did not appear on that list.

that's good stuff. I'd like to read that article. I'm proud as well. I think subsequent designs have been compromised too much and become too "user friendly" and "cuddly". The XJ is timeless looking IMO. I think it may have something to do with the fact that it was the last project of an old school guy and not some young hotshot trying to be edgey and make a name for himself. Crazy to think that a sketch from 1978 would turn into a vehicle still produced in 2005 (in Asia) virtually unchanged.... and its influence is definitely undeniable.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen copies of the Cherokee's styling on other brands of SUVs.

Really makes me proud to own my cherokee's. Wish chrysler had the sense to bring it back....almost 3,000,000 sales in 17 years should be reason enough to bring it back...that is not counting the hundreds of other reasons why it should be brought back.

As much as I love my XJ no one at Chrysler is listening. I would say that Jeep has single handedly saved the Chrysler corp and they are not interested in throwbacks, at least not for Jeep. Jeep appears to be trying to move into the upper middle class and rich sector to take over where Hummer left off. As much as I like the 4 door wrangler there are a lot of people driving them who would have purchased a Hummer if they were still produced instead and you can see it more and more every day. They clearly see the value in the XJ design from the looks of the commander and the patriot but the XJ is done never to be seen in production again.

Sorry to say or but I agree. The most they will ever do is throw the cherokee name on another body. The xj just isn't fuel friendly, aerodynamic, or luxurious looking enough to fit in with expectations of the new car buyer of today, except for us jeepers of course.
