Default Another noob from Va.

Just wanted to say hello from Va. I just picked up a 95 Cherokee from a small car lot. The owner told me that this Jeep has a blown head gasket and is missing the alternator. I got it for $500. I am going to the JY tomorrow and was wondering if an alternator from any year 4.0 Cherokee would work. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also I would just like to say that this is an awesome forum.

Hey thanks for the welcome guys. I am in the town of Windsor Va. a small farm community not too far off the coast. Thanks for the info finnney. I haven't had time to really get into it but hopefully after I get back from the JY today I can see what's going on.

Well no luck at the JY today locating an alternator. So I went out and looked over my new (to me) Jeep. what I found made me wonder about the PO. I checked the oil first and it looked fine, but there was about 2 quarts too much. Then I noticed this wooden dowel hooked to the hood release cable. It's so hack. I pulled the plugs to look at them,No. 1 and then 2. Three through six looked fine.

I think after I get the alternator on I'm going to do an oil change and grab a couple of plugs. I would like to hear this motor run before I get "too" far. I'm not a mechanic by any strech of the imagination but I think that's a prudent move. What do you guys think?
