Default Swapping 95 8.25 axles for newer 8.25

Evening, I have a 95 Cherokee with 8.25 - 27 spline axles. I am wondering if I can take the axles off a newer Cherokee that is running the 29 spline axles, and bolt them on my 95?

By axles you mean the shafts or the whole housing? The whole axle will swap directly.

Yes the whole axle will bolt right up. The housings won't just swap out without replacing the internals.

I am wanting to bolt on the entire housing, then change the gears. I hear people swapping to the 40, but I also hear the newer 29 splines where a close contender. Since I can get the 29 spline in the the 97- I think 2001, I am wondering if it is a bolt on application to an older Cherokee like a 95 with a 27 spline.

Not sure what you mean by "40", but you can swap the entire axle from a 97-01 cherokee with the 29 spline rear, into an earlier model year(with the 27 spline). That's what I did with my '95 and I've had no issues in the last 5 or so years.

Edit: I forgot to add, this is assuming you have the same gearing as the axle you're looking to swap in.

so here is my question, I have the 27 spline axle which I re-geared to 4.56. If I wanted to swap 29 spline axles which "internals" will I need to swap in others than the carrier. Also if I get a 29 spline axle what would be better to swap the 4.56 gears to the 29 spline diff or to swap the carrier and axles to my current 27 spline diff?

All you have to do is put the 29 spline shafts and carrier in.
